"you're still beautiful.."
⋆ ⋆

after leaving the cute mandu guy, eunji and beomgyu arrived at the bottom of the hill. eunji gulped, praying to God that she'd get to the top without falling. they started the climb, with beomgyu talking nonstop, while eunji followed behind, already exhausted. none of his words crossed her ears. beomgyu suddenly stopped and looked back, realizing he was seven steps ahead. eunji struggled, and when she reached him, she bumped into him, but beomgyu quickly held her arm to steady her. she looked up and smiled.

"are you tired already?" beomgyu asked, letting go of her arm. she shook her head, but he raised an eyebrow, unconvinced.

"okay, fine... i get tired easily because i have weak legs," she admitted. beomgyu stared at her for a moment before deciding to be a gentleman.

"let me carry you on my back," he offered. eunji immediately refused, but he turned around and bent down.

"come on, we'll be late," beomgyu insisted. with no other option, eunji hopped on his back. her heart pounded, and she prayed he couldn't hear it.

"if i'm too heavy, put me down," eunji said, feeling guilty as he carried her and the plastic bags.

"nope, you're lighter than i thought! plus i'm strong." beomgyu chuckled.

"i thought i was heavy." she mumbled, thinking he wouldn't hear, but of course, he did.

"what?" beomgyu asked, jaw dropping in disbelief.

"uh, nothing!"" she lied.

"what did you say?" he insisted, turning his head to look at her over his shoulder.

"nothing important." she tried to brush it off, but he didn't let it go.

"ugh, okay, you stubborn bear! i did say that because in high school, my friends used to say i was... um overweight." she confessed.

"they fat-shamed you?" beomgyu asked.

"sort of... but i don't care anymore," she replied, staring at the sky.

"you're beautiful, no matter what they say. you know that?" beomgyu sounded irritated. eunji just listened, a smile coloring her lips. she could feel her cheeks heat up.

"and if anyone tries to body-shame you, punch them, don't forget to break their teeth too, okay?" beomgyu said, making eunji chuckle.

"okay" she replied.

"oh, we're here. you can get down now. thanks, gyu," eunji said cheerfully, hopping off his back and smiling widely. she couldn't help but notice his strong arms. no wonder he carried her so easily.

"is 'gyu' my nickname now?" beomgyu asked, loving the way she called him. she nodded, still smiling. she couldn't believe she was the reason his cheeks were so subtly turning pink. never in a million years, she'd expect that,

they both sat on a bench, eunji still mesmerized by the beauty of the place. it was lit up by colorful lights, and the starry sky and view of the city were something she never realized she needed in her life. beomgyu smiled as he watched her gaze at the sky, her face glowing in the soft light.

"so, do you like it here?" beomgyu asked, opening a can of soda and handing it to her.

"yeah, it was worth the climb." eunji replied, taking the can and murmuring a quiet "thanks."

"i always come here when i'm sad, bored, or angry. you can come too if you need to clear your head. it'll lift your mood." beomgyu said, opening another can for himself.

"how much can you drink at once?" she asked with a teasing smile.

"uh, maybe half." beomgyu replied confidently, making her smirk.

"hmm, let's see," she said challengingly. beomgyu nodded and downed the whole can in one go, leaving eunji's jaw dropping. but then a long, loud burp followed. feeling embarrassed, he glanced at eunji, who was turning red from holding back her laughter. she finally burst out laughing, and beomgyu couldn't help but join her.

"oh my god..." eunji tried to speak through her laughter, "what was that?"

"i don't know!" beomgyu giggled.

"okay, my turn," eunji said confidently, attempting to drink half of her drink in one go. beomgyu mocked her as she whined about not being able to finish it like he had.

"oh, baby, it takes a professional." he teased, laughing. she rolled her eyes, pulling out her mandu and aggressively biting into it. all the while trying to ignore how hot her face was getting from the way he called her "baby".

"mind sharing?" beomgyu asked, giving her a hopeful look.

"say 'eunji is the best' and i'll share," she said, side-eyeing him.

"why?" he asked, baffled.

"because i want you to." she replied, making him sigh.

"fine, eunji is the best. happy now?" beomgyu grumbled, and eunji nodded, handing him some mandu in a small bowl. after a few minutes of eating in silence, eunji broke it with a question.

"so, how's your relationship with chaesoo?" eunji asked, making beomgyu glance at her in surprise. but he quickly realized that chaesoo and eunji were friends, so she must have heard about them.

"uhh, we're good," beomgyu replied, and she smiled and nodded again. the air between them settled into a peaceful silence until beomgyu started joking around again.

they spent the rest of the night laughing and enjoying each other's company. for a while, eunji forgot about her sadness and worries, lost in the warmth of beomgyu's presence. and it only made her more sure that he'd always be her soulmate, no matter what.
