It was three fifty and by now the school day would have ended 30 minutes ago.
Mia never showed as she spent most of the day hiding out in Liliana's room. Her best friends mother was aware she had spent the night and she believed they went to school together that morning. Mia and Liliana had walked out the front door only they parted ways after about five minutes. While Lily was off to school, Mia snuck into the half open window of her friends room.
How she wasn't caught by either her brothers was beyond her. Thankfully, she didn't have to worry about her best friends mother as she was at work. She had no idea how she got away with it. And then it hit her. Lily had moved a few months ago and while she knew the way to her house her brothers never learned the route. Thank God.
"Mia," she was startled as she heard a whisper after the bedroom door opened. "It's just me." Liliana said as the words brought relief to Mia.
"They didn't go looking for me, did they?"
"Asher and Benjamin came to the school. Chris has been driving around town. I'm surprised those guys haven't sent out the police to look for you. They're freaked the fuck out." She said with a slight laugh.
"The last thing I need is them calling the fucking police. Did they ask you?"
"I ran as soon as I saw them. Well, technically, I wasn't even running. I just walked by the office and they didn't turn their heads."
"Good. We all know you'd be a horrible liar. Especially to my brothers."
"What? I'm not a bad liar." She stated seriously.
"You are. You can't look anyone you're lying to in the eye, you look like your going to either laugh a little too hard or burst into tears, you're face turns bright red, you-" Mia said before she was cut off.
"I've heard enough." She said as she put a finger to her lips. "You have an outfit right."
Mia dug through her duffle bag, she had put her dress inside of hours before she left the house angry. "Crap, I forgot it." she joked as she pulled out the dress after Liliana looked at her with wide dark eyes.
"Ugh thank God. I thought I was going to have to find something from my moms closet. That's the last thing I want." She said with relief.
"You should've seen the look on your face." Mia laughed as Liliana shot her a glare.
"Sophia's gonna pick me up soon. We'll pick you up a block from here and we'll get ready for the party at her house." Liliana announced in a hushed whisper.
"Your mom isn't home yet." Mia told her with an eyebrow raised.
"She'll get here soon it's almost five." She answered.
"She can't know you're here or going with us. Then she'd suspect and your day of hiding out is over."
"Does Sophia know what's happening?" She asked, concern laced her voice.
"Yes and no." She replied.
"What does that even mean?" Mia hissed.
"It means she knows you're coming but she doesn't know you've been avoiding your brothers for the past day." She answered, giving her a wide eyed look.
"It's all for good reason. And it's better this way anyway." She explained.
"I didn't say anything." Liliana defended.
"You were giving me a look."
"What look? No I wasn't." She denied.
"Yes you were but whatever. It's fine. You say what you want me to think then. But I know." She said, a smile tugged a her lip.
