Cole woke up in his room feeling cold and pain shot through his body when he tried to roll over. He didn't like that and stayed still in hopes the pain would pass. Something shuffled over beside him, before a pressure was on his chest and he thought he heard someone talking but couldn't hear over the ringing in his ears. Deprived of a vital sense made him feel vulnerable and he had a strong urge to curl up to protect himself. When he found he couldn't move much of his body though, his next best bet was to try to see what was going on.
As he laid back down, being guided back by the mysterious pressure on his chest, he wondered where he was. He strained his dark eyes open to look around, he first only saw blobs of color. What caught his attention the most was the blob of bright blue. Jay. Jay was here with him. He didn't care that his heart raced, he was overjoyed. The serotonin quickly dropped in his system when his vision cleared enough to be greeted with all the wrong features. Where he expected beautiful sapphires, he was instead met with a rich hazel. This, with the golden tan skin he saw made him think of Kai and for whatever reason, he was still okay with that. It wasn't until he noticed the thick black tendrils of messy hair piled on top of each other that he realized it was Nya. His heart plummeted to his stomach, which in turn decided to churn and he felt so sick he was surprised he wasn't gagging.
Nya seemed to be talking to someone while gathering something just out of his line of sight. He closed his eyes when he was suddenly picked up. His sense of smell, which was the only thing he deemed reliable, said that something smelled strongly of cinnamon and he smiled lightly. His head found what felt like a shoulder and he opened his eyes to a wall of crimson. He felt the wall heave and looked up, making out the features of Kai's face, he seemed to be laughing but Cole didn't miss the red dusting his cheeks. He tried to speak but nothing came out and he was glad too, as exhaustion consumed him again.
When he woke up again, Nya was at his side again. That was twice he's gotten his hopes up. If this was some cruel joke the others were playing on him, it wasn't funny. Cole looked around, but couldn't see much with how his neck hurt. He wondered if Kai was there again. When he focussed on Nya he realized she was talking to someone again. He could make out from reading her lips, the words Wu, medicine and trash can. Was Sensei home already? Or was he being called to come home because of him? He tried to open his mouth to tell Nya he was fine but nothing came out, again, his throat was drier than a desert.
He felt hands on him, had those been there before? As he focused his blurry vision he saw Nya's hands change position, now her arms were wrapped under his and she seemed to be trying to pull him up, he guessed so he could sit up. He helped as best as he could despite the pain and heard her say sorry. Hey he could hear again, that was cool. He wanted to tell her It wasn't entirely her fault he was hurt, he just wished Jay was in her place.
As he adjusted to being upright, dizziness instantly shook him and his stomach churned to the point of no return. There was a trashcan hastily put in his hands and he was plenty thankful as he spewed out his guts. Nothing like revisiting dinner right? He laughed weakly as his own joke, not noticing the looks he got. He was a sick man, they should know he would be out of his mind. He cringed when he was done emptying his stomach. The smell hit his nose and he gagged, throwing up bile in reflex. He was pretty sure he wouldn't be eating anytime soon after that. He groaned, trying to mutter out a thanks as the trashcan was taken from him.
He heard someone else groan, who was that? Cole looked around his room, his vision clearing up well enough he could make out Nya sitting in a chair beside his bed. Behind her, stood a blob of orange that slowly seemed to take the shape of an old friend. Skylor? He saw Nya nod and felt his face warm up. 'Oh did I say that out loud?'
Both women laughed at his confusion before Skylor came up beside him and gently rubbed his head. She looked pretty upset, Cole noted, before he felt something cold against his forehead. He shivered and Skylor looked disappointed. He cowered back, not liking that look, it meant he did something wrong. He wanted to explain that he was just cold, but as his mouth opened, all that came out was a yawn. He sighed, he was getting tired of being tired already. As he shivered again, he heard Nya say something to Skylor before his door was opened.
