The Promise

Chapter 2

I'd been sitting in the car for about 10 minutes before I saw Nick emerge from the diner, his eyes were downcast, posture slumped and had his hood pulled up over his head, to the outside world this was the posture of a Bad boy or a Thug, but to those who knew him well it was the look he took on when he was embarrassed or apologetic, I sighed as I opened the door, I swung my feet out and got up slamming the door behind me, Nick looked up with a start, body going tense but then relaxing as he saw it was only me.
" Look babe..." He trailed off, " I'm sorry okay? I know I said I'd try and be nice but it's so hard, I just, I see his and your friendship and it makes me so goddam jealous! When I'm around him I feel like he's always trying to prove how much better he knows you or how much happier you were when I was out of the picture!"
" Nick, You make me so happy and Wade knows that, he's just protective of me and can't stand the way you treat Carly, yes I've known him for years and yes he's my best friend, but I love you okay? I'll always love you. " he looked up from underneath his hood, blue eyes shining with several sets of emotions, I rolled my eyes laughing slightly as I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him down for a kiss.
"Okay?" I asked standing on my tiptoes to pull him into a hug, he buried his head into the crook of my neck and mumbled,
" Okay..."
" Good," I said with a smile pulling away from the hug, " the back seat was lonely without you..." I trailed off with a wink, he smirked and took my hand leading me into the car.

We were sitting in the back of the car, Nicks hands up my shirt, touching every inch of my top half, our lips were locked, my hands resting on his hips, thumbs gently caressing the soft skin just above his hips, he moaned quietly as his hands moved to the bottom of my top, he was about to pull it off when we heard a loud yell ( more of a shriek!) we jumped apart instantly, eyes wide.
" Guys! Seriously in my fucking car?!" Wade yelled walking over to the drivers side and opening the door before sitting down and turning to glare at us.
I looked at him and then over Nick who looked pissed before back over to Wade, we locked eyes before bursting into fits of laughter.

We'd been driving for a few hours now, my feet rested on Daltons lap whilst my head was on nicks, everyone had been quiet most of the way, small conversations between Carly and wade could be heard at times but that was about it,
" it's gonna be packed tomorrow," groaned wade,
" Really?" Came Carly's reply
" Dude speaking of packed my legs are killing me back here man" whined Dalton,
" Don't worry man it's not Wades fault his little hot wheels car only fits two." Nick said snidely, Dalton chucked before saying,
" it's more like a shot wheels car, isn't it wade? What'd you do, go to the barbers and ask for a he-man hair cut?" Nick snickered. I groaned sitting up,
" Would you guys just shut up already?" I snapped glaring at them, I saw wades eyes flicker to me in the mirror smiling thankfully before turning back to the road.
" what the hell is this?" I heard wade ask, I sat up fully and looked through the windshield,
" Aw man," Dalton said looking at the road works,
" this sucks." Moaned Carly.
"So much for this nice little short cut." Snapped wade, I could tell the boys comments from earlier were getting to him and he just wanted to get out of the car as soon as possible. I rested my head against Nicks shoulder, closed my eyes and tried to drown out all the noise, but that didn't last long,
" dam yo, yo!" Dalton said tapping my arm repeatedly, I looked up to see what looked as though Paige giving Blake a blow job, I laughed along with everyone else before Nick leant over to the front and honked the horn,
" what are they doing?"
" what is she flossing herself with that thing?" I laughed harder as Paige sat up and smacked Blake's arm,
" look at his face!"
" She's calling me," Carly said as she picked up her phone, " you are sooo busted!"
"............" I couldn't hear what she said but Carly quickly nudged Wade and said,
" she dropped her lip balm," a chorus of " yeah rights" echoed round the car along with laughter and grins, I couldn't really hear the rest of the call but Blake gestured to pull over, I smiled as Nick wrapped his arm around me pulling me close.
" hey look, wax museum." I heard wade say, I smiled remembering when we went to one of those as kids,
" Hey you like that kinda stuff wade?" Said Nick with a smirk,
" yeah, I dunno sometimes " replied Wade, not rising to Nick's bait,
" I guess if you like things pretending to be other things, which you obviously do, right sis?" Came Nicks snide response, Carly glared at him as I moved his arm off of me and turned to him,
" Why do you always have to be such a dick?" I snapped quietly,
" babe-"
" Just shut up." I replied before leaning my head on Daltons shoulder and closing my eyes.

We finally arrived in the middle of a field, we eagerly jumped out of the car, glad to be out of cramped space,
" your car sucks dude," said Nick as he stretched over exaggeratingly.
" Paige, Jess, come with me we'll get the stuff," shouted Carly beckoning us over,
" well?" I asked looking at Paige expectantly,
" I couldn't, there's no point in freaking him out right now,"
" And supposedly we find out you are pregnant ?" I asked,
" Jessie I'm not sure okay?"
" we just think you should have a convocation with him," Carly replied,
" He's been looking forward to this stupid football game for months and I don't wanna ruin it for him but starting a fight." Came Paige's reply,
" Paige, he's not gonna marry you, his parents won't let him." Said Carly harshly.
" Who says I wanna get married? Besides, I've been late before, when I know for sure I promise to talk to him okay?" Paige said with a smile
" good, now let's go have some fun," i said Grinning.
Me and the girls sat in a group in the middle whilst the boys unloaded the rest of the truck, Nick of coarse had placed a chair next to the cooler and was sitting there alone drinking a beer and smoking a fag,
" Yeah don't help us or nothing!" Yelled Dalton as he carried some bags from the truck, I lay with my head on Carly's lap watching the boys play football laughing along with them, everyone was having fun and enjoying themselves until the ball went flying over Wade's head and landed at Nick's feet,
" Touchdown....." Wade trailed off, seeing where the ball had landed, he held out his hand, waiting for Nick to throw it back but all he did was drop his cigarette down next to the ball and glare. We could all see Wade's back tense as he stood there a moment more before making his way over to the ball, but just as he was about to pick it up Nick grabbed it and threw it harshly at Blake.
" Nice arm, see why they gave you a scholarship," Wade snapped, me and Carly glanced at each other worriedly before turning our attention back to the guys,
" yeah it's a real tragedy isn't it." Nick replied with a glare,
" yeah, it is." Wade said stepping closer towards Nick,
" I'll go sort them out, wait here." Carly said to me with an apologetic smile, she ran over to them stepping in between them,
"Wade, help Dalton okay?" When Wade made no move she rolled her eyes and asked " Please?" He sighed turning away,
" Bye wade" said Nick snidely
" Asshole," Wade replied
" Be two seconds girlie," I said to Paige as I got up and made my way over to Wade,
" You doing okay?" I asked, placing a hand on his shoulder, he sighed turning to me,
" No matter what I do he's just a complete dickhead," he said with a scowl, " I don't know what you see in him Jess but he pisses me the fuck off!"
" Hey," I said placing my hand on his cheek, " I know he's a dick and I'm so sorry he takes it out on you but I promise you he's a good guy, you just need to get past the shell he puts on,"
" I'm fucking trying to but it's just not working!" He was shaking with anger now so I pulled him into a hug, then took his hand and walked behind a tent away from the rest of the group, we sat in the grass and I started talking,
" Remember the first day I met him? I came to meet Carly, the girl of your dreams, you talked about her like she was the sun to your world, I met her and I knew from the first word that came out of her mouth that she was the girl for you, we had a laugh, went out for food then came back to hers to chill for a while, you remember what happened then?" I asked teasingly,
" yeah," he mumbled
" Nick, came rushing down the stairs asking Carly if she was okay, where she'd been all this time, and he hugged her so tight, didn't even notice we were here until she introduced us, he was the sweetest nicest guy ever, sure he still had his criminal record but he wasn't a dick to anyone. That was only what? 3 maybe 4 years ago? Why can't you just remember that that boy is still there, just underneath all that crap he puts on for show? We then left the house and heard him say " you chose well sis, he's a good guy." Wade sighed fiddling with the grass,
" I know... I just wish he was still the same guy."
" me too..." Wade then wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me against his side,
" God, what would I do without you lil sis?" He said grinning,
" Crash and burn," I said with a laugh, " now c'mon the others will be waiting." I stood up, extended my hand and helped Wade up before we made our way back to camp.
