Hailey's POV

The sun came through my curtains, awakening me to another day. I sat up in my bed, and stretched. Today was my date with Dan; it had to be perfect. I walked into my bathroom and turned on the shower. I untensed as the hot water poured down my body, relaxing my muscles. As I stepped out of the shower I threw my hair up in a towel and put on sweats. I still had hours until I had to actually start getting ready, so I took advantage of my extra time and called my best mate Carrie. "Hey!" Carrie said in her cheery voice. "Hi! I have great news. You're never going to believe it." I said, the excitement in my voice growing. "Wht happened?" She replied. "Dan asked me out!" I squeaked. "No way! You have to tell me everything!" Carrie said; she sounded almost excited as I was. Carrie was the one who introduced Dan and I, for that I couldn't thank her enough. I always told her how much I liked Dan, and she always said that he had the same feelings for me. I never believed her until now. Anyway, I told Carrie everything that had happened between Dan and I in the past couple of days and we caught up on our usual gossip.

. . .

After a couple of hours I decided to get ready for me and Dan's date. I squeezed into a pair of black skinny jeans, and zipped up my Victoria's Secret PINK hoodie. Since we were only going to the movies I thought it was fair to dress casually. Besides it's not like Dan hasn't seen me at my worst, half the time I'll show up at his house in sweats and no makeup. The strange thing was whenever I was around him I always felt so comfortable, like I could be myself around him. I began to straighten my hair, which ended up taking me almost an hour. Then I applied some foundation hoping it cover up all my imperfections. Lastly I put on a thin layer of eyeliner and mascara. I heard a ping coming from my phone and ran out to check who it was. It was Dan. Hey! I'm outside :) I slipped into a pair of converse and walked out to meet him. As soon as I walked out the front door I saw him. He was leaning up against his car. He was wearing his The Ring tee shirt, I didn't know if it was just a coincidence or if he actually remembered. I'd boughten that shirt for him two years ago on his birthday, later that day he had told me it was his new lucky shirt. Whenever he wore it it was normally for a noteworthy day; like his first BBC Radio 1 show with Phil. "Hey. You look really pretty." Dan said. "Thanks! You're not too bad yourself." I joked. Dan smiled. Oh God his smile, it was so perfect. Dan opened up the door for me, and I sat down in the passenger seat.

. . .

"That was a good movie." I said, while we walked out of the film. "Huh? Oh, yea." Dan said in response. He seemed kind of distracted. "Are you okay?" I asked him, I was determined to get to the bottom of this. "Yea, I'm fine. Why?" Dan said grinning. "No reason. You just seem a little distracted." I explained. "Oh, sorry." Dan said. We walked out into the main area of the theatre and Dan grabbed my hand. I looked down at our entwined hands and blushed. Dan must've noticed that I became slightly shy, because he giggled at me. I glanced over to the left, and nearly jumped at what I had seen. Could my eyes have been playing tricks on me? I hadn't seen him in years, what was he doing here? As he turned around I knew it was really him. I squeezed Dan's hand, my body slightly shaking. He won't notice me if we leave now, I kept telling myself. I started to turn, "Hailey!" the deep voice called. Shit.

I'll never forget you. I promise. (Dan Howell Love Story)Where stories live. Discover now
