I looked down in wonder at the young boy picking the daisies from the field, him inspecting each one to make sure it was perfect. Any that did not meet his high standards, he threw to the ground- adding to the ever-growing pile.

I followed him as he eagerly put them in his pocket and ran to school in a rush. And I watched him as he hesitated before giving them to a young girl with small bunches in her hair, muttering something about how she was beautiful.

I listened when she thanked him and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek- leaving his little seven-year old heart beating faster in joy and his cheeks a rosy red. I laughed as she ran away giggling to her friends about how her crush likes her back and they're going to be together forever.

I cried as the boy placed lilies on his mother's grave, the girl whispering into his ear how she loved him as she held him close to her heart. Both were not so young now.

I smiled when he gave her roses as he asked her to prom. Him acting so casual when really he had been practicing what to say for months. And I watched as she jumped happily into his arms and as he catches her, kissing her hard on the lips.

I was there when they sat beside each other, interlocked in each others arms, against the trunk of the oak tree. Going on twenty years old, they had a lot planned for the future; dreams of well-paid jobs, a house of their own and of a family. They discussed every year of their future life and soon realised that their plans were different but both contained one thing: each other.

I saw how they planted the sunflower in celebration after she gave him the news that she was pregnant. He screamed with delight and promised that he would take care of her for all of her life. Then they sat by the fireplace, spreading the news together. First they called her parents- the boy having to explain to her dad awkwardly and convince him that he was ready to become a parent as well. Then they called his dad- who was much more excited than hers was. Then they argued for a small moment on who they should call next but soon decided just to go through their contacts and ring everybody they knew.

I supported the boy as he handed her a bouquet of bright orange flowers the colour of the sunset that he knew she loved. Putting them down on the side cabinet, he hugged her in congratulations and love before demanding playfully that he held their child. I witnessed the adoration in his sparkling eyes as he looked at his new family, gratitude recognisable in every part of him.

I celebrated as he proposed and as she agreed without having to think for even a second and as she walked down the aisle holding that small bunch of daisies in her hand. And I smirked as I soon realised that I was one of the only three people who knew the meaning behind those hand-picked flowers.

AN: Just to clear up any misunderstanding, the young boy is Shawn and the narrator is Mother Nature! I wanted to try something completely new and I think it worked?
