"Um... my apologies," Bit said politely as he began leading Lorona away from the stick. "We'll just-"

"Uh... stay," Liv ordered nervously.

Bit blinked. "What?"

"I haven't met anyone in a long time. Stay."

Bit looked down at Lorona. "Well?" he asked in a low voice.

"I... I guess it wouldn't hurt."

Liv led them over to a campfire surrounded by a couple of logs. She said nothing as she unpacked the bundles she'd been carrying.

"You feeling alright?" Bit asked Lorona.

"I... I think so."

"You haven't cried this hard since... well..."

Lorona raised a hand. "I know, I know. It's just..." She drew in a shaky breath. "It's shocking, the way it happens so fast."

Bit nodded. "I get what you mean."

They watched as Liv dumped some raw vegetables and water into a pot above the fire and begin cooking.

"You guys hungry?" Liv asked as she stirred.

"Kinda," Lorona admitted, "What are you cooking?"

"Radish stew. I added some extra spices so it won't taste too plain."

"Don't you usually add them?"

"No."

Ten minutes passed in silence. Finally, Liv turned and picked up a stack of wooden bowls. "Here," she said, spooning servings of stew into the top bowl.

Lorona got up and took the bowl. "Thanks," she said, sitting down again. Bit copied her. After he'd sat down, Liv got down on the log opposite the siblings.

She glanced at the two through the flames. They hadn't introduced themselves, which was kind of suspicious. Not that they needed to, of course, but still, it seemed a little odd. Weren't people supposed to introduce themselves when they made someone's acquaintance?

She decided to put that aside for now and focus at the matter at hand. As she looked down at her hands, she noticed a spot on her right arm where the blue paint had peeled off, revealing the vibrant red underneath- her so-called "true" form.

"Um..."

The two glanced up.

"I've gotta... um... go elsewhere for a while. Excuse me."

And she ran off into the heart of the cave, leaving Lorona and Bit alone next to the campfire.

They stared at each other. "What was that about?" Bit wondered.
