Here I am back with some of my experiences! From the start, I liked cricket as you know many of Indians like to play cricket. Just like that, it became my favourite too. Honestly, I never took part in competitions or you can say that mostly the schools in which I studied in prioritized studies over sports and fitness. I was really good at cricket during that time because I used to play with big boys of age 15-17 when I was at only 8-9 years old. Those memories were beautiful tho. At this age, I used to play football to but mostly I was a goalkeeper because my classmates said that I am good at doing this job. In year 2013, I received a silver medal in two-legged race. I could've earned a gold medal if I had not lost my mind and tell my opponents the strategy to win the race.
With the coming of year 2016, my interest went into lawn tennis as it was a sport in my new school. There are 5 sports in my school - Football, Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball and Lawn Tennis. I chose tennis over all these sports because I had played them once in my life, but tennis was kinda new to me. I bought my first racket which costed like ₹499 something. It was of Cosco and of green color.
Cost nowadays - ₹1,100
Usually this racket was for newbies. Me and my small brother developed interest for tennis so it was a big question that who will take the tennis racket because we had only 1. Soon we negotiated and decided to take racket in alternative days. Practice is also necessary when learning about a new sport. So as I told, we had only 1 equipment to play. My father brought us a table tennis equipment set (except the table and net). From that day, I started playing lawn tennis with that table tennis racket. Seems weird, right? I know, I know it does. Table tennis racket which made of wood cannot hit a green tennis ball without applying a large amount of force. But still I played with that small table tennis racket and succeeded in learning tennis. But that was not the only challenge I had to face. On July 2018, a tennis tournament was held. Not interschool tho. Just for our school only. And at that time, both my brother and me took part. Unluckily my brother couldn't get into the competition but I did. I didn't perform well. Let me tell you the reason and elaborate it. The competition started at 8:30 am and we all know every sports person needs a short warm up time to perform well. But our coach, who only supported the students who came at academy, let the academy students do warm up and not us (yes, I learnt tennis all by myself without taking any help from others). And that absence of warm up resulted laziness in me. I couldn't move my hand properly just because I was feeling very lazy. Plus, my partner (we were playing doubles) was a left hand dominant. We were literally standing in the opposite of our boxes. Back-hand is a difficult move if you are experienced with tennis. Let me show you an image how it is done.
If you are right hand dominant then back hand is used to hit if the ball is on the opposite side of your dominant hand and vice versa for the left dominant ones. So me and my partner were standing in a position where we both could get a back-hand which is mostly weak in many players. And that's how I lost my first match. But that defeat gave some popularity in my school. Every teacher started to know me. Every student knew I played tennis.
Soon, I got my own new racket on my birthday in 2018. It was a Wilson racket, and Wilson company is among the best companies which make best tennis rackets. The color was quite suitable for me also. Here is a glimpse of that racket.Cost Nowadays - ₹10,493
And this racket was bought on my birthday, it's name is Wilson Blade. It costed around ₹4999 in the market. And it is the best racket I've ever received according to me. I like this racket a lot. If you see this racket in my house, it is completely changed. It has dust all over it. Not because I didn't use it for a long time, it's because I used to play on streets and lanes as there was no tennis court near my house. Me and my brother started playing it regularly. Soon we became really famous in school and we were known as tennis brothers. We both were good in tennis in our respective classes. And the most important thing, we both learnt ourselves not with the help of an academy. We reached at such a level where we could defeat some of the academy students. Soon, I had to quit tennis for some months because of studies and corona virus of course. This has become quite long. Guess, I make another part of this Sports Lyf. See you in that part! Till then take care ❤
