Chapter 1 – Platform Nine and Three-quarters

Miles and miles away from Azkaban prison Harry Potter was standing in the middle of King’s Cross station with people rushing around him occasionally throwing him a suspicious glare. This was because Harry Potter did not look like all the other people as he was pushing along a large trunk that, along with many other bizarre things, contained a cage with a white, snowy owl in it. He heard one lady as she walked past mutter something about calling animal control.

The other reason why Harry Potter looked such a bizarre sight was that he was gazing almost lovingly at wall that was quite away after platform nine yet not quite up to platform ten. To the wizarding world it was the entrance to platform nine and three-quarters, yet to all the muggles who were passing by it was just another brick wall. The same women who had commented about calling animal control walked past Harry again, this time muttering something about mental illness and how those “sorts of people” should not be allowed to roam around in society.

“Oi! Harry!” yelled a tall redheaded adolescent who walls also wheeling a large trunk with a smaller owl on top of it. A pretty brunette with long slightly fluffy hair accompanied him. “Over here!”  These were Harry’s two best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The year before, all three of them had joined forces to defeat Lord Voldemort and in doing so had brought peace again to the wizarding world. Last year should have been their seventh and final year at Hogwarts but because of their exploits they could not attend, so this year they were to finally complete their wizarding education and were all greatly looking forward do it!

“Hi Ron, hi Hermione!” he replied with immense enthusiasm. He had missed his friends over the holidays and the thought of spending a whole extra year at Hogwarts with them sounded to good to be true.

After exchanging news with each other and talking at a million miles an hour they finally had to stop for a breath. Their attention then wavered to the brick wall they were standing in front of. Ron looked at his watch. “It’s 9:58, we’d better get a move on if we want to catch this train, unless you fancy arriving in a flying car again Harry?”

They all laughed but unanimously decided that the train would be the safest bet even considering how much fun the train would be. It was the last time they would catch the Hogwarts express and enter through the brick wall so they decided that they would do it together. They lined up side by side, took a deep breath, then casually strolled through onto platform nine and three-quarters like it was completely normal to walk through a brick wall. They found that if they did this the muggles who happened to see them suddenly lost all their logic and reasoning that they had grown up knowing and also found nothing wrong with this extra-ordinary behavior.

As the three of them emerged on the other side they suddenly fitted in perfectly. Everyone had massive trunks and many also had owls. However, they still stood out from the crowd because when they walked past people stopped mid-sentence and stared at them with a mix of deep admiration and awe. It reminded Harry of the first time he had emerged on platform nine and three-quarters when he was only eleven years old. Everyone had whispered around him, “there’s the boy who lived!” Now there whispers had changed to “there’s the boy who triumphed!”

They said hi to many of their friends who also had come back to repeat their seventh year because of their disrupted education the year before. As they finally made it to the train the climbed on and walked down the aisle until they found an empty cabin. As they settled down on their seats they gave each other satisfied smiles. This was going to be a great year at Hogwarts!
