Chapter 4
The zombies weren't leaving, that much was clear. Some were clawing at the tree, but none were climbing at least. George eyed the bush he dumped the axe in. None of them had noticed it.
He looked at the tree next to him, the one Dream was originally climbing. He saw the bag hanging off a branch, with the sword sticking out of it. Dream had left it there and jumped down for him.
"Where's Sapnap?" George finally spoke, as he carefully re-tied the blooded bandage on his leg. He definitely needed a new one.
"Over there." Dream responded softly, and George looked up, seeing Dream looking away, and he followed his gaze.
On another tree, a couple over, Sapnap was lying on a branch, with rope tying his torso and legs to it. The other bag was hanging off the end of the branch. George's eyes widened at the sight. He could see from here that Sapnap's chest was slowly moving up and down, but his eyes were closed, and his hair was damp and tinged red.
"The bag I grabbed was one you had filled. It had rope, and I just... I tied him to the branch, out of danger before going back." Dream said softly, eyes cloudy.
"Is he ok?"
"I don't know. He's alive. Hit his head." George could tell Dream was itching to go over to him.
"He'll be fine, I'm sure. We just have to wait this out a little." George said, looking back down at his leg and the wet bandage that wasn't doing much to stop the bleeding.
With a sigh, and a brief closing of his eyes, George pulled off his shirt, and began to wrap around the bandage with it.
"What are you doing?" Dream asked, voice fast.
"What does it look like?" George muttered back, too embarrassed to look at the other boy as he wrapped his leg with his shirt.
"I-I have to go over to Sapnap. I won't be able to see him when it gets dark." Dream said, clearing his throat.
"But... the zombies." Dream saw George glance down nervously.
Dream didn't respond, just slowly got to his feet. He eyed Sapnap's tree, and analysed the possible paths to get over to him. He tried to sense which branches could hold his weight, but it was difficult to tell.
"You're going to climb? What if you fall?" George asked.
Dream swallowed and looked down briefly before quickly snapping his head back up.
He hated heights.
"I won't." Dream's hold on the trunk tightened. "I have to get to Sapnap." His jaw tensed. Sapnap could be dying. He thought the boy would have woken up by now, and complain about being tied up, maybe even make a kink joke about it. But nothing. He had to go to him. Had to wake him up, check his head injury.
He looked down at the zombies. The height made him woozy. But it was only a few feet. He was fine. He was fine.
He had to do it for Sapnap.
Dream took a deep breath, and carefully shuffled along a tree branch, which was growing thinner towards the end. Just before he deemed it about to break, he jumped over to the neighbouring tree, quickly hugging the trunk.
Ignore the ground. Ignore the ground. He just pretended he was jumping on tree roots that were lying on the ground. Get to Sapnap.
He heard the zombies below stir, and they moved below him.
He ignored them, shuffling around the tree, tentatively placing his feet on branches to see if they were sturdy. When he eventually picked one, he hesitantly crouched down to it, and slowly crawled along it.
