Chapter 8
"Absolutely not." Dream grabbed the back of Sapnap's bag and dragged him back towards the forest.
"Dream! It's a gas station! It'd be a waste if we don't check it." Sapnap argued back. George just calmly followed the pair of them.
"It's probably been raided to death, and full of zombies. I refuse to go near it. We'll trek through the forest around it."
"If it's already raided then why would there be zombies in it?" Sapnap whined, still being tugged along by Dream.
"Ok so either there's no food and no zombies. Or there is food and there is zombies. Neither of scenarios require us to go near it. Don't argue with me on this." Dream said. Sapnap got out of his grip and turned around, glaring.
"I agree with Dream." George piped up, and both the other two turned to look at him in shock, making him shuffle awkwardly on his feet. "There could even be humans that have set it up as their base. It's not worth the risk, there no chance there's anything of value in it." He said.
Sapnap sighed, shoulders slumping.
"Fine. You're right. I'm just bored." He said, walking the rest of the way to the forest. Dream and George shared a brief glance, and then quickly followed after him.
"Let's just focus on getting to the Haven, yeah?" Dream said, trying to get Sapnap out of his grumpy mood. Sapnap just grunted in response. "Look, it's getting late. Let's go for another hour or so and then set camp for the night, we can continue in the morning."
"Fine." Sapnap was leading now, through the forest for the next hour along the road, not on it. If they were going to camp in the forest anyways, they may as well look for somewhere to set up as the walk.
They had been walking for a couple days and had officially crossed the border of South Carolina. North Carolina was closer than it has ever been and they were all getting more hopeful. Dream was in charge of the map because neither of the other two knew exactly how to pinpoint their location and how far they've travelled.
"There's a cave there." George pointed about an hour later, the sun beginning to set. Dream held up his sword and approached it first, slowly, listening.
"It's clear. A bit small, but it'll do. Cosy. We'll have to get close." He said, stepping into it. George walked over as well, peering inside. It certainly was small.
"Too cosy for my liking." George's nose scrunched. "We'll find somewhere else."
"I'm too tired to go on." Sapnap said, dropping his bag and axe onto the floor.
"I'll go get some wood for a fire, maybe find some animals. You two try and make a cover for the entrance." Dream said, pointing at them. "Can you put a tie on it, Sap? So we know where to come back to while we look?"
Sapnap nodded, and pulled out the red material, tightening it around the tree next to the cave.
Dream walked off a little bit, and George and Sapnap separated to search for large leaves or pieces of bark that could be tied together to create a cover. George found a large, thick tree branch, and when he saw Sapnap later, got him to help drag it back to the cave, so it could cover half of the entrance.
"Who's taking which watch tonight" Dream said when he came back, dumping a large pile of sticks, kindling and logs by the entrance to the cave.
"Who was the most annoying today?" Sapnap asked. It had become somewhat of a rule, the most annoying got the middle watch, which was voted as the worst one.
"You wanted to recklessly raid a gas station." Dream pointed out.
"And you didn't let me."
"Because it was stupid. And George agrees with me. So you're taking middle watch."
