When Maria told me about Alejandro I tried my best to seem happy for her but I couldn't feel help but feel like she was only setting herself up for heart break. I could tell just by the way he walked and strutted down the hallway he was nothing but trouble. Although I didn't share mutual feelings with Maria I pretended to be happy for her. Telling her the things she wanted to hear and not the words she actually needed to hear.
After school I walked from dance class to pick up my soon to be new girlfriend Beatrice but everyone just calls her "B" from athletics which was just a minute walk away. By the time I got to the main gym she was already outside waiting, in Purple spanks with a black T-Shirt. I couldn't help but admire her body, I was stuck between wanting to penetrate it or just having a body like her. She waved to me when she saw me smiling. Her smile was so big that I could see her braces glimmering in the sunlight. I approached her slowly and cautiously. When I had reached her she gave me a big sweaty hug. Drops of sweat got on my neck, but I didn't care. I took a seat below her, on the step. She began to run her fingers through my long hair.
"Avory, your so beautiful." She tells me planting a kiss on my forehead. She pulls on my hair, instantly making me feel warm and moist inside.
"B!" I exclaim, "You know how I feel about that!" I say referring to her pulling on my hair, she knows that it's one of my biggest turn on's.
"I know." She whispers into my ear, gripping my hair, slowly yanking on it, " I love teasing you," she hisses.
I groan with great agony. I feel my phone vibrating, I reach into my jacket pocket and pull out my phone.
"Avory," my mother says.
"Yes ma'?" I ask her
" I need you to come home, no staying after school today with B."
"Mom..." I whine.
"I don't need your attitude Avory, I'm the mother what I say goes."
"But that's not fair." I tell her.
"Life's not fair," she awnsers, "now hurry your ass but get on the via bus and get home. I expect you hear in no less than a hour."
There's a moment of silence .
"You hear me child?" My mom says.
"Yea yea yea." I tell her.
"Don't worry mija things will get better eventually." She says then hangs up the phone."B" I start," I have to go."
Her smile turns into a frown, "awe" she says. I look at her little curvy body. She is so short she looks like a leparcon. But I found it attractive. We say our goodbyes then I head to the via bus. Which is across the street from my school.
I sit at the stop, in the blazing hot sun, sweat starts dripping down my face. The smell of greasy fries and friend chicken fill the air since my bus stop is next to lots of little fast food joints like Jack and the Box and Wendy's. Chills go up my back as three men go around asking for money. One of them is a white man who looked to be in his late fourties. His blond hair looked like it hadn't been washed in months. He had a snaggle Tooth. His voice was raspy as if he spent all of his life smoking cigarettes. His eyes where hazel and he had freckles right below his eyes and on his nose. His face was red and his skin was peeling from sunburn. He wore a blue shirt with many different color stains on it. It was ripped on the right side below his arm pit. He had facial hair, thick sideburns and chin hair. His jeans were full of grass stains and we're too short for him, they revealed his once white shoes that were covered in mud.
"Spare change?" He went around asking," any one got some spare change?"
Many people just ignored the man as he walked up and down the street with his assistances. I sat on the right side of the bench looking across the street and the graffiti, admiring it as time passes by waiting for the bus. When I feel another ones presence. I feel the bench shift weight as someone sits down next to me. I turn around to see a familiar face. His small eyes and his up turned nose, had caught my attention at school today when Maria showed me him. Those features caught my attention because they made him look like sid from ice age. The person sitting next to me is Alejandro.
"Hey," he started, "you go to my school right?" He smiled.
"Well if anything you go to my school," I responded, " I mean I was there first..."
"Damn," he laughed, "your feisty." He says licking his lips," that's kind of hot."
My heart started thumping, not because the guy who Maria liked was flirting with me, but just because he flirted with me in general. It has been so long since a boy has ever flirted with me, not that I like it, because I don't go that way but it was kind odd which is why it is having a huge effect on me.
"I'm a lesbian." I slur, tripping over my own words and they spit out of my mouth.
He seemed to be taken away by my words. For a second I thought I had make him lost for words. Then a second later he was talking again.
" I would've never known" he started, " you don't seem like you roll like that."
"Obviously you don't know me very well." I tell him flipping my hair off my right shoulder.
"Let me get to know you then." He smirked.
"Why should I let you get to know me?" I question him," are you even worth the time?" I spat
" first thing first, what's your name?" He asks me ignoring my comment.
"Avory," I tell him," Avory Lnn."
" How old are you?" He asks
"What is this!" I demand, "20 questions???!"
" No," he laughs," if we where playing 20 questions I would've asked you what your bra size was already." He rests his head in his hands, " Here I am legitly trying to get to know you, and I'm getting shut down." He pauses," your playing hard to get, huh?"
"I don't play games." I tell him," I'm a little too old for that nonsense."
"Your never to old for nonsense." He tells me as the 84 bus pulls up, and with my luck That's also the bus he takes. He follows me onto the bus, I head to the back of the bus and sit at my usual seat on the left side by the window with the tagging. It was
"Jeremy is a faggot."
I don't know who Jeremy is, probably will never know.
He sits down next to me, he was once to talkative, and now he was quiet. For the first 10 minutes we rode in silence, until I heard the popping of containers and the crunching sound of foil. I turn to him he is unwrapping brownies. He had a tray full of them, with different assortments. Some have walnuts and others do not.
He pops one into his mouth and automatically seems to look relaxed. He catches me staring at him,
"You want one?" He asks taking out a brownie holding it next to my nose.
I could smell the pot in the brownie which made me a little jumpy, not because I am scared but because I have been clean for eight months. I know it's not long, but it's a big accomplishment for me. The smell takes me back to freshman year when Maria and I would get high in the ditch by Jenrold Park with all the other druggies. When one of the girls Alyanna was rapped and killed by Cesar, it was a rude awakening to what drugs can lead too. Alyanna was a responsible girl, as for Cesar he was always very sexual and touchy. When Alyanna's grandma died she smoked to feel better and to numb the feeling of pain and loss. That night she had over done it and couldn't even walk correctly leaving her vulnerable. Cesar was overage and hadn't had sex in almost two years because he can't keep a girlfriend, and all the girls he flirts with thinks he is gay from the start, it's probably because of all the beanies and the posses he does in his selfies. Cesar seeing her vulnerable, he made his move and rapped her. When she threatened to tell the police the next day when Alyanna realized what he had done, Cesar followed her going to school and choked her to death. He was reported no more than 30 minutes later, and was arrested at school where he was found. He was charged for child molestion and first degree murder. He was only sentenced to 15 years and then 10 years on parole. Which means in 13 years he's free to roam the streets again.
"No I'm good" I tell Alejandro.
"Come on," he says," just one," he begs," no offense, but you seem like you need it more than me." He tries to hand one to me.
I shake my head no refusing.
"Avory," he tells me," I know you want it, I'm not asking you if you want one," he says" I am telling you to eat it" he demands.
I finally give in, and take one. I take a bite into it, falling into a mysterious unreal universe, that I can only travel to when I'm high.
What turns into only one brownie turns into dozens and Alejandro keeps putting more into my hands and I keep eating. More and more and more, I feel myself forgetting my own name and thinking into the past.
"Hey what's your name again?" I ask the person next to me.
"Alejandro." He tells me.
"Can I have another brownie." I giggle.
"No, no, no" he laughs closing the container," that's enough for you."
"But," I pout, I grab onto his arm leaning my head against him, "tell me I'm pretty" I laugh.
"Avory, your pretty." He tells me, he probably doesn't mean it. But I just needed to hear it.
"Avory," Alejandro starts," not that I'm trying to kick you off of the bus, but where is your stop?"
"On Mullberry," I say, "why?"
"We past that a long time ago.." He whispers.
"What!?" I exclaim, being awaken from my trance. That's when my phone starts ringing,
"Hello?" I say into the phone.
"Where the hell are you!??" My mother yells.
