Layonna pulled back and I felt my cheeks heat up even further. We sat in silence before I cleared my throat.
"So.." I trailed off. "I'm still naked."
She nodded her head and stood up not saying anything, I watched her leave and shut the door.My mind was blank.
I didn't know whether to smile like an idiot, ponder about what this meant, or act like this never happened?I touched my lips only to realize they were swollen. I heard a meow and turned towards Gizmo who stared up at me with his large, judgmental eyes.
We stared at each-other before I wheeled myself over towards my bed, using my arms, I pushed myself onto the bed and tried my best to dress myself.
Putting on jeans or sweats was far to uncomfortable, especially if I started to sweat so shorts were my only option.
For tops, I could wear a hoodie all I wanted too.
Me and Layonna had started watching this new show on Netflix, but since I got injured we haven't been watching it recently.
I decided to start the show and pause it. I cleared my throat to save myself from any further embarrassment.
"Layonna?" I called out as the door opened.
There she stood, with a bowl of chips in her hand along with a smile.
This was a good thing, I suppose? She walked over to me and sat the chips down before taking a seat on the side of the bed. There was a loud silence before she took a deep-breath.
I decided to start the conversation that would probably be longer than the episode I was about to watch.
I opened my mouth to speak. "So.." I trailed off pinking some lint off of my hoodie. "What are we?"
Layonna turned to face me and opened her mouth. She paused, holding up a finger, before yawning. It was a long, grueling sound that made me smile and made my eyes crinkle.
"Sorry." She said, before turning her body towards mine.
"Whatever you want us to be." She started, picking with some lint on her sweatpants. "If you want us to act like this never happened, continue to be friends.."
I put my head back. "That wasn't the answer I wanted, Lay."
She tucked in her lips, turning them into a thin line.I started to think whether or not to confess, but after a few minutes of silence I decided that right now would probably be the best time to.
"I like you." I said after taking a deep breath. "Ive liked you for a while. I was going to tell you a while ago but something came up, I figured since we're having this conversation right now that it'd be best to tell you."
I finally had the courage to look up at her only to find her staring at me with a goofy grin on her face.
"About time." She said, falling back onto the bed. "I was waiting because I didn't want to confess first."
I rolled my eyes and pushed my body up. "You liked me?"
"I still do like you." She said, rolling over. "You just kept giving me mixed signals."
My eyebrows rose. "I was the one giving you mixed signals?"She laughed and I stared at her as she rolled back and forth on the bed. "Now unpause the show, I've been waiting for forever to finish watching it."
I shook my head, holding back a laugh and picked up the remote before unpausing the show.
_________
It had gotten dark outside faster than I expected and me and Layonna had just finished binge watching the entire season.
She sat up, stretching before turning towards me.
"You have work tomorrow, you should go to bed of else you'll be tired." She nodded and turned off the television.
"I'm going to take you on a date this weekend." She said, smiling towards me. My cheeks heated up and I directed my eyes somewhere else.
She stood up and leaned over towards me. "Goodnight, Harlee." She pecked my cheek before running a hand through my hair.
A small shiver ran down my spin and I felt an overwhelming sensation of butterflies erupt and flutter through my abdomen.
"Goodnight."
The door shuts and I'm left with my thoughts of Layonna.
A small meow directed my attention towards the floor. Gizmo stared up at me with his big blue eyes and I lifted him up, placing him on the bed.
The smell of Layonna filled my nostrils and I found myself sniffing the cat.
"Come on, Bud." I laid him down next to me, wrapping my arms around the fluffy cat.I watched as Gizmo fell asleep before I started feeling myself getting tired.
My eyes fluttered and I tried to fight the overcoming sleepiness but I failed. The door to my bedroom opened and a the yellow light of the hallway filled my half-closed eyes.
I felt the bed dip and the scent of Layonna somehow got stronger.
My eyes closed and I tried to figure out if I was dreaming or if she was actually in my room, laying down in the same bed with me.
When I felt her cold hand on my arm is when I knew I wasn't dreaming, and for once, I was happy that this was a reality and not some stupid dream my mind had made up.
