Damn, she had a spear?

Kia rose. She looked like she was keeping her knees from giving out by sheer force of will power. She glanced around the room and met my eyes. I didn't see heroism there; she looked more like she was about to throw up. Her glow was flickering, casting shadows on her Valkyrie's face.

She grabbed her arm, "you're not supposed to actually stand up, idiot." Kia's ears flushed and a couple enherji snickered. She sat back down again quickly; I felt terrible for her. At least I hadn't done that.

I silently sent a prayer out, though I wasn't sure to whom, that she had been worthy. Sure, I'd only known her for an hour but I was good at judging people (it's a Frey thing) and I could tell that she was a good person. So why couldn't I have more confidence in her?

With a small click the video started. We were soaring through the air above a small town.
Two-story red brick houses created a U-shape around a small green park, though there was so much wilderness outside I didn't see why they needed one. Most of the houses looked like they had been empty for years and I saw no people walking around, although that might've been because of the four or five flaming Giants marching towards it. Next to the leader I could make out a small human shaped figure, with dark hair and a glowing spear. My dinner solidified in the pit of my stomach.

"What?" Sam hissed, "is that-"

The camera zoomed in and any hope I had been holding out promptly disappeared. I glanced over at Kia; her mouth made a silent No over and over again as she watched.

Giants and company reached the edge of the town and spread out, probably looking for plants to burn (or eat? I don't know what fire giants do) while the leader and the girl continued down the middle. I realized I was calling her "The girl," but I just couldn't accept that she was the same person I had shown around Valhalla and almost dropped into Vanaheim earlier.

I assumed the Valkyrie landed on the ground because there was a jolt and suddenly we could see and hear them a lot more clearly.

"-Revenge," the giant was saying. His voice was strangely soft, with a slight British accent. (I wondered how jotuns could have British accents. I thought about asking Sam, but I figured she would just say, "no, humans have Jotunese accents." I was getting really tired of hearing that.)

His skin was a beautiful marbling of black, red and gold, and if Surt was Satin's fashion advisor he could be Surt's. Other warriors shifted uncomfortably in their seats, and a few put their hands over their ears. It was only for a split second, but I felt like I wanted to listen to the guy. I mean, he was so handsome and friendly sounding; how could he not be on my side? But I immediately snapped back to reality. The girl- Video Kia didn't look so lucky.

"Obviously," she said. A cold smile played itself across her lips, and when I say cold I mean it was completely devoid of any warmth.

Yes Magnus, that is what cold means.

But I felt like I needed another jacket just looking at her. She couldn't be the same person. She couldn't! Her eyes had the same lost look I'd seen on a few kids back out on the streets. If I'm going down I'm taking the rest of the world with me! Her hair was pulled up into a high ponytail and on her forehead was a pure black scar, like she'd gotten paintballed with a tar machine. It matched the dark handle in her glowing spear, as if it didn't belong there and was slowly cracking her apart.

Oh yeah, did I mention the glowing spear? She held a six foot tall rod of pure light in her hand. It reminded me of the Valkyries spears, but it looked warmer; more attuned to her body.

"And then you will lead us further, carrier," the giant continued.

I wondered what a carrier was, and why he thought she was one.

Nearby a stick snapped as if someone had stepped on it. They both turned towards the sound and a middle aged man in a gray cloak stumbled out. Kia's eyes narrowed.

"Please," the man whimpered, "please, I'm sorry just don't-" he choked and looked down. Her spear stuck out of his chest right where his heart was. A couple Warriors gasped. Someone went "ohhhh." Halfborn's mystery chicken bone fell out of his mouth. At her table, Kia looked like she'd stopped breathing.

"I don't accept your apology," video-her snarled, yanking the spear out of his chest. The force pulled him forward and he fell face first into the dirt, still. She glanced around, like she was looking for more innocents to kill. She turned towards Mr. British giant, who was staring up as if listening closely to the sky.

"Oh dear," he murmured. He looked down at her sadly, "I'm afraid there has been a change of plans." Her spear hand twitched but he was much too fast for her. His huge hand wrapped around her head, "do destroy Vahala for me!"

With a single movement he crushed her skull.

"Ouch," someone whispered. The person next to him choked on their drink.

A dark shape rose from her head, fluttering around his hand like a crazed bird. He lifted it into the air, like some sort of trophy. "We raid!" He yelled.

His friends repeated the cheer, "raiding! "Yay!" "Raid, baby, raid!"

A hand extended in front of the camera and Kia's spirit rose into the air. Suddenly, I knew her. She looked lost and nervous, her glow much weaker than before. Her hair fell down and covered one eye giving her the "I Just woke up and I'm this cute" vibe.

My head swam. Was that when it had happened? Who was that guy? What was that dark thing? Why was the giant British!? The video clicked off, leaving us in silence. One poor confused enherji started clapping only to be shushed by his friends.

Helgi rose. His beard was shaking so much the bits of food stuck in it were experiencing an 8.0 earthquake. I couldn't tell if he was angry, scared, or just hungry, but I guessed all three.

"Explain," he growled.
