Kia's Valkyrie rose, a glare still on her face. When I was little my mother had said, If you frown too much your face will get stuck that way. I guessed her parents hadn't told her that.
"Roisin Kerr," Helgi's voice echoed around the room. If it weren't for the orange sauce stains all the way down his shirt he might've almost looked imposing.
"This is no simple mistake like it was last time. You brought an enemy of Asgard into Asgard! How do you plead?"
He spoke like this was a trial in a crime detective show and had just found the murderer. His hand twitched like he wanted a gavel to bang on the table and yell order in the court!
The Valkyrie, whose name I had cleverly deduced was Rosin Kerr, smiled coldly.
"This girl is a warrior," she pointed at Kia, who looked like she had turned to stone.
"Yes," Helgi said, "but-"
"She died in battle."
"Well-"
"She bravely tried to stop the Golden One from killing her."
One of the Erics was nodding along, but he was quickly stopped by a glare from Helgi.
"And she died with a weapon in her hand. I haven't broken the rules."
"But why would you bring her here? That is breaking the rules." My neck hurt from looking back and forth between the two.
"You're going to fire me," she said quietly, her accent blurring the words.
"Yes," Helgi said, obviously not understanding how accents work. "We are!"
"No!" she yelled, enunciating each word as clearly as she could, "You were going to fire me. One mistake and my entire career is over. And don't try to deny it," She yelled as he opened his mouth to deny it. "I heard you talking. I hoped at least I could take you down with me; give you an Enherji who would cause you a bit of trouble, but noooo," she grabbed Kia and pulled her up, showing her off like she was returning a crappy item, "This little goody two-shoes had to go and lose all her memories of how to cause a decent bit of chaos." She dropped her and Kia sat down with a soft thud.
I was amazed she hadn't bursted into tears yet; that's what I probably would've done in her place. She didn't look like she was about to either; instead she seemed confused, lost in thought and a little bit angry.
"But go ahead, do it," Rosin growled, "I blew my chance to take you down. Send me back."
"Very well," Helgi raised his hand, "unless Odin wishes to intercede?" He barely even glanced at the throne.Rosin scanned the crowd and I saw her eyes lock onto something; a young Valkyrie with short golden blond hair standing in the corner with a tray of drinks in her hand. She looked sad and disappointed, but not that surprised. Rosin's gaze softened and I realized she wasn't just some revenge stricken monster, some faceless evil. She was a person who had made mistakes and paid for them, just like me. It had cost her so much more though.
Her eyes said, I'm sorry. The younger girl nodded, tearing up. Then she turned back to the Thanes and her mouth said, "I hope you all burn in Muspelheim," and with a flash, she was gone. The room fell into silence. I tried not to cough, figuring that would kinda ruin the moment.
"Well," The manager sat back into his seat with a light thud. "Shall we continue?"
