A vicious kick landed on the prone figure, whose body lay motionless against the battered floor, enduring each blow with a quiet submission.
"You should've walked away when we told you to," the man snarled venomously, not letting up. Every strike seemed to reinforce the boy's growing belief that he was nothing but a burden—a useless, incompetent fool.
"Y-You can't do this! I won't... won't let you!" The boy managed to rasp, his defiance only fueling the gangsters' fury. Moments later, his skull collided with the hard surface, the force nearly blinding him. A pained groan escaped his bruised lips as he mentally cursed himself—weak, pathetic, undeserving.
"You're not good enough. He only took you in out of pity. You don't belong in his empire. You're a disgrace to his name. Nothing but a shame."
The words echoed in his mind, relentless and unyielding. Tears welled in his eyes as he thought of the one man who had ever believed in him—the man he had failed.
The one man Hyunjin truly respected, adored beyond measure. The man he worshipped like a devoted disciple, ready to sacrifice everything just for a single moment of his favor.
"I overestimated myself," Hyunjin thought bitterly. "I thought I was strong enough to defeat them. But I'm not. I'm worthless. I'm pathetic."
His thoughts spiraled endlessly, each one more crushing than the last. He sobbed quietly, not out of fear for his own life, but because he knew—deep down—that he was about to fail the one person he never wanted to disappoint. Again.
"If only I had one more chance..."
He wished, "Just one more, and I'll prove myself. I'll make him proud."
Suddenly, the sound of hurried footsteps broke through the haze of his despair.
The group of men immediately ceased their brutal assault, turning their attention to the young boy who had rushed in. The boss, his anger rising, snarled, "Are you fucking kidding me? How is that even possible?!"
"I—I don't know, boss!" the boy stammered, panic-stricken. "But all the guards you posted... they're all..." He hesitated, eyes wide with fear. "They're all dead!" The room went cold as the gangsters exchanged nervous glances.
