"The decayed body had been lying in the basement for weeks until the janitor discovered it. It was so unrecognisable that we needed dental records to confirm the identity."
The pictures were nauseating. I felt myself vaguely gag at the discernible white worms coiling around the rotten flesh.
The brutally killed corpse had become a breeding ground for maggots and flies. Strange, disturbing boils had formed on its skin, somewhat familiar to the bubonic plague. It was sickening to see that an innocent person could be killed so inhumanely.
The carcass was of Ms May, a young elementary school teacher. I believe she was taking an unauthorised medicine manufactured by the Villein Group before her death a week ago. The search was in progress until she was found dashed in the basement of her school.
"Only the post-mortem report can tell us if it was the medicine that led to her demise. Even then, we won't have any proof that it belongs to the Villein Corps, Ms Fiore."
My eyes narrowed, "The police has no backup on the medicine?"
"Not that we know of." My gaze flickered to the young officer leaning on the wall, Choi Yeonjun, whoblanklystudied the file concerning the case.
"The Villeins are only suspects, we hold no proof to actually put them behind bars." Another officer, Jackson Wang, continued.
A queue of soft profanities escaped my lips as I slumped into my chair. I was slowly beginning to understand why was I the only attorney fighting against the Villein Group.
It was pretty obvious that they were behind the illegally released medicines. However, there was no evidence to prove that they were criminals.
Somehow every victim that ever filed a case against them ended up dead, every witness either turned the tables on the last day or disappeared, and all proof that was ever gathered against them was deemed useless on the trial day.
The Villeins definitely had someone potent aiding them. A rather influential and important figure. Someone from the government or worse, the criminal world.
My lips fell into a thin line. "I'm surprised the Intelligence Forces haven't involved themselves in this case yet...the deaths seem to be getting out of hand." Yeonjun scoffed at my words, keeping the file down.
"I am sure it won't be long before they do. The culprit will be arrested and put on trial." I nodded in agreement before asking, "Apart from the Villein Corps, is there anyone else on your watchlist?"
"Ah, yes. Have you heard of the Vigilante Scar? She's quite famous."
"Is she also a suspect?" I feigned my surprise, "I heard she only kills bad people."
