Dark, heavy clouds crawled across the sky, swallowing the once-luminous choir of stars, shrouding them like a mother cradling her newborn.

But this night carried a special kind of darkness—the kind that did not seek to suffocate the light, but rather to embrace it, letting the stars burn all the brighter against the abyss.

It was a warmth, an intimate blackness that wrapped itself around the world like an old, familiar cloak. Within its embrace, one could feel the weight of their own soul, that flickering, inborn spark of existence.

But whatever comfort this night offered would crumble in the face of what lay beneath it.

Raindrops, cool and relentless, raced toward the earth, eager to kiss the damp ground—only to collide instead with charred, bloodied flesh. A corpse, mangled beyond recognition, lay sprawled near the lake's edge, its body half-submerged in the inky water.

Crimson rivers trickled down the burnt skin, the rain weaving intricate, macabre patterns across the ruined flesh. Thousands of liquid globes reflected the eerie stillness of the night, distorting the gruesome reality in their fragile embrace. The scent of scorched flesh clung to the damp air, mingling with the metallic tang of blood.

Then, a flash of red split the darkness.

The piercing wail of sirens shattered the silence, their echoes bouncing off the trees like a funeral hymn. Blue and red lights pulsed against the wet earth, momentarily painting the grotesque scene in flickering hues of life and death.

A man stepped forward, the crunch of brittle leaves beneath his boots cutting through the distant rumble of the storm. His sharp gaze swept over the motionless figure, taking in the grotesque details.

Lifting his radio, his voice was calm but edged with something unreadable.

"I found the body."

Static crackled in response before another voice filtered through, steady yet laced with anticipation.

"Are you certain it's her?"

The man didn't answer immediately. Instead, he crouched beside the corpse, his gloved fingers brushing against its ruined form. Then, with an almost deliberate slowness, he turned the body over, exposing what little remained of its back.
