Mavis rushed to Chicago Med after learning about Firehouse 51's fireman Christopher Hermman. Christopher had already been rushed into surgery by the time she arrived. He recovered from a stab wound.
She went to his room after his surgery, where Conner came to check on him and others from 51 one waited for an update.
"How much blood is coming from the vac?" Dr. Rhodes asked.
Mavis checked. "About 250 mils. Pressure's still low."
"You think it might've helped if you hadn't waited so long?" Severide asked outside the room with his arms crossed. Both Mavis and Conner looked at him.
"Excuse me?" Dr. Rhodes asked.
"If you operated on him when we brought him in. Not waited," Severide responded.
"Are you talking to me about medicine right now?" Dr. Rhodes furrows his brow.
"I'm talking to you about my friend?"
"Look I'm gonna say this once I did the right thing," Dr. Rhodes responded.
"Well, some of your fellow docs don't agree."
"Odd that they would share that with you and not me," Conner walked up to kelly.
"Okay, don't start," Mavis stepped between them.
"Kelly I understand your concern, as we all are. So, instead of ruminating on the decisions that were made at the time. Let's hope Hermann can pull through this."
"So, if you could please return to the waiting room," Mavis indicated for kelly to go back over to the remaining members from 51.
.......
Mavis was paged to check on Carol Sheppard while Natalie was with Maggie. She walked into her room.
"What's going on?" she said walking in.
"Fever's up, the pressure's down, and now she's not responding," Doris said.
"Could be her sedation. But she's also uremic, acidiot, and her BUN's through the roof," Mavis read her chart.
"Something's not right., All right, let's get this PICC line out and broaden Zosyn," Mavis ordered.
"Okay," Doris said.
"What's going on?" Mrs sheppereds son asked as he came into the room.
"She's got a urinary tract infection, okay? But the antibiotics aren't touching it. More importantly, her kidneys are shutting down and we don't know why,' Mavis explained
"What do you mean you don't know?" he asked.
"Mrs. Sheppered? Carol?" Mavis formed her hand into a fist and started rubbing Carol's chest.
"We are giving her fluids, antibiotics, and medicine to increase her blood pressure."
"Have you been able to find any recent history? Any records we can check or someone we can talk to."
"No I already told the doctor before you I don't know who to talk to I haven't been around," he said frustrated.
"Look, I'm not blaming you, okay? But I just met your mother about 10 minutes ago and I'm working without a history," Mavis said putting on gloves.
.......
Mavis had finished with Carol and had received the result for Jessica Pope from Ethan. She was passing by and overheard Daniel and Will conversing.
"What's going on?" she said.
"Jessica Pope, Suicide after all," Dr.Charles said looking up from the note.
"Really?" Mavis tilted her head.
"Because I just got some very weird test results," she said.
"They confirm she's dying from an overdose of chemo."
"What's weird about that?' Dr. Halstead shook his head.
"The results also show that... she never had cancer," Mavis said.
.........
Another patient had arrived at Med after being hit by a car while having a seizure. Dani died from an overdose of chemo for cancer she never had.
Mavis was then summoned to Mrs. Goodwin's office, where she was greeted by Conner Will, Daniel, and Sharon.
"Two patients in one day overdose on chemo... Neither of them had cancer." Dr. Charles said
"Which, I must admit, does seem suspicious," Mrs. Goodwin said.
"Well, it could be a new oncologist," Dr. Rhodes said.
"Or mixing up a few charts," Dr. Choi said.
"Yeah, but even then, why the overdoses?" Mavis said as she was looking through the paper Dr. Charles had handed her.
"What do we know about these women?" Mrs. Goodwin asked taking off her glasses.
"Jessica's note said she felt betrayed," Dr. Charles said "And Dani's girlfriend said Dani was upset about something but wouldn't talk about it," Dr. Halstead said.
"Something was going on with both these women."
"Yeah but we don't have any medical records that can link them," Mavis said.
"I'm gonna get in touch with some local oncologist. see if there's been a problem with their chemo or patients in the same condition."
"Thank you,"Mrs goodwin said then everyone made their way out of the room.
.........
As they were leaving the room, she asked Conner, "How's Hermman?"
"He's doing well, he finally woke up," and Conner looked at her.
"That's great," she said.
Mavis went to see Natalie's patient Carol Sheppered, who had finally opened her eyes. Sharon and Daniel approached her as she exited the room.
"Mavis," Mrs. Goodwin said.
"Yeah?" mavis handed her Ipad to one of the nurses and walked up to them.
"Carol Sheppered's biomarkers just came back. She never had cancer," Mrs. Goodwin said.
"Are you serious? This is the third patient Just like Ethans and Conners patients," Mavis said in disbelief.
"Oh my God," Mavis said.
"Three women all cancer-free overdosed on chemo. Somebody's doing this on purpose." Dr. Charles said
"Could it be a doctor doing this? giving false diagnoses and overdosing?" Mavis asked.
"It's a long way from "do no harm." I've called the police. They're on their way," Mrs. Goodwin said.
