Once dinner was finished Y/n grabbed Peter some pajamas and sent him to go change while she and Bucky went to do the same. Bucky told her about his day while they got ready to stargaze and she did the same. They packed up several fluffy blankets for warmth and one huge sheet to sit on, making sure that they would be as comfortable as possible. When Peter came out of his room, clutching his lamb, Y/n's heart just about melted. He was wearing the pajamas she had picked out, blue ones with the words "Junior Avenger" on the front pocket of the shirt and little avengers logos all over the pants.

"Can I bring Dolly with me?" He asked shyly, hugging the soft toy close. He'd gotten entirely attached to the toy in the last month, especially since Y/n had informed him that both she and Bucky had picked it out when they found out he was coming to live with them.

"Did you name your lamb after Dolly the sheep?" Bucky asked amusedly.

"You know who that is?" Peter asked excitedly.

"Yeah! She was the first true clone of a mammal!" Y/n said from the kitchen where she was putting the dessert Peter had chosen in a storage container. "You can bring her if you want pumpkin. We don't mind a bit."

"Okay!" Peter said happily, running over to wait by the door.

"Looks like someone's excited," Bucky laughed, grabbing the bag of blankets so that his wife could take the dessert. Peter vigorously nodded his head. "I think you'll really like this spot, bear. There's no light pollution out there."

"Wow! Really?" Peter asked, excitement shining in his wide eyes.

"Really!" Y/n said, leading the way to the car. "It's beautiful. And it's a very special place for us."

She helped Peter get comfortable in the car with a blanket and his lamb tucked safely in his arms before climbing into the passenger seat. Bucky rested his hand on her leg, waiting for her to take it in her own before he began driving.

It took about an hour to drive to the hill that Y/n and Bucky were so familiar with, and Peter was entirely at peace during the car ride. He stared out the window, watching buildings and eventually just trees pass by, and listened to Y/n and Bucky softly speaking to each other about plans for tomorrow. They asked his opinion every so often, making sure he was happy with their ideas, but for the most part they let him rest. It had been a long week and he was enjoying being allowed to simply be cozy and warm, not expected to make any big decisions or make conversation.

Eventually Bucky turned off the side of the highway, finding the familiar dirt road and driving until he saw their spot. He turned off the car and turned to his wife. "You ready?" He asked, excitement gleaming in his eyes.

"Born ready," she laughed, climbing out of the car and going to Peter's door. "You ready pumpkin?" Peter hesitated before reaching up for her, pleading silently to be held. She didn't hesitate to wrap him in his blanket and pick him up, cuddling him close while she instructed Bucky to grab the bag of blankets and the dessert. "Love you pumpkin," she whispered, wrapping his blanket a little tighter around him.

"You love me?" Peter asked, leaning back so that he could see her face.

"Of course I do. I told you at the store too, remember?" She reminded him, giving him a soft smile as he thought.

"I kinda thought you were just saying it 'cause I said it," Peter quietly admitted. He couldn't remember the last adult that had told him they loved him.

"I would never say it if it weren't true, I promise," Y/n said softly. "You're my little boy, I love you."

Tears welled up in Peter's eyes as she pressed a kiss to his forehead. "I love you too," he whispered, collapsing against her so that his head rested on her shoulder.
