Thankfully—Embry and Orson slept practically the entire car ride. And Darby didn't complain as much as the first time, she sat with one earbud in, listening to her murder mystery podcast, while going through the list of landmarks we were passing by.
When we make it back to the estate, I couldn't help but feel as if I was returning home. Jackie was waiting for us at the front door and even got the two maids—That I didn't know were starting, to help with the bags. "Those are Lucille, and Johanna—Sadie hired them after Anastasia and Kimberly left," Jackie informs Darby and I, as we make our way into the house.
"Kimberly left too!?" Darby gasps shocked.
"Yes, Anastasia offered to get her a job at the new estate she's working at—And you know how that worker bee followed the queen, it took a lot of convincing to make sure Dylan wouldn't leave after her, like a lovesick puppy," Jackie sighs. "You two have missed so much, I know it's only been a day but golly," Jackie sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Like what?" I question.
"Not here, not now—We'll talk later in the garden," Jackie tells us both, before looking around the hallway. She clears her throat. "I'll take care of the children's unpacking, but Mr. Frechette wanted to speak to you as soon as you returned home,"
"Me?" I question.
"Well, what do you think he wants to speak to Darby about how she folds clothes? Yes you," Jackie scoffs. "He's in his office, hurry now before you know who returns from her tennis lessons, and Darby, I'd like you to begin training Lucille and Johanna,"
"On it," Darby says, she gives me a look before she departs, and I just brush her off and make my way to Misha's office. I knock on the door gently, waiting for his reply.
"Come in," Misha announces. I push my way into the office, stepping inside and letting the door close behind me.
"Hello," I say, making Misha look up from the papers scattered on his desk.
"Soncerae," he says with a small smile. "How was the trip? Everything run smoothly?" Misha questions.
"Everything was great! Orson had a great time, Embry had a great time they got to see a lot of people they missed from their old town," I say.
"Good, that's good," Misha says. "I still wish I came but—I don't think that would have been a good idea," he says.
"I'm going to have to agree with you on that one," I say with a laugh. "Was there something important you needed to speak to me about? Jackie said you wanted to see me when I get back," I say.
"Ah yes, I wanted to talk to you before Sadie returned from her lessons," Misha says clearing his throat and pushing out of his seat. "Sadie feels as if our relationship is too—"
"Unprofessional?" I question, and he nods with a tight-lipped nod. "In what way?"
"I believe she thinks that—" Misha starts, before pausing. "I think she thinks we're too close to each other,"
"Is this your way of firing me?" I say.
"No, No god no—" Misha says holding up his hand. "I just feel like for now it's best that we work through Jackie, to keep up a more professional workplace—If I have any questions or comments, then I'll talk to Jackie and you do the same, and Sadie doesn't think you should share meals with us," Misha says, pushing out the last bit of the sentence quickly.
