Between 1854 and 1929, more than 150,000 orphaned and abandoned Cody children rode the the Orphan Trains to new lives. They were put on the trains in New York and Boston and transported to rual communities in the midwest and elsewhere, where they were "placed out" in adoptive and foster homes.
