To say it was "a nice day" was an extreme exaggeration; at least for Chongyun. It was way too hot out, to the point that he wondered if he was really in the Sumeru desert instead of Liyue Harbour. Oh how much nicer it would be atop of Mt. Dragonspine in the nice, brisk winds.
"Dear Chongyun, don't be so dramatic," Xingqiu said, bumping their shoulders together. "In fact, I'm fairly certain you may be the only person in Liyue to complain on such a perfect day"
"...It's too hot out… I'm feeling… dizzy.." Chongyun muttered. The next moment, his head fell on Xingqiu's shoulder as he tried to catch himself before falling on him any further.
Without hesitation, Xingqiu closed his book and caught the boy, who was in fact feverish to the touch.
"Oh, Yun-yun…" He sighed, helping him to stand up so he could bring him somewhere to cool off. “Now let’s see,” Xingqiu thought aloud as he scanned the streets, looking for a particularly fiery chef. “Ah! Don’t worry, Chongyun, hang in there,” he said as he dragged him towards Wanmin Restaurant by his shoulder. He would much rather carry the boy bridal-style, however, he did not possess the same upper body strength that Chongyun had to be able to carry a heavy entity.
“Aaaand, here’s the special, and for you, your Golden Crab, and then- oh! Guoba, where’s the mora tray for table 5?” A cheery light voice rang on approach.
“Xiangling, dear friend, I believe we’ve got an emergency!” Xingqiu announced just as the chef turned around to face them.
“Oh no! Mr. Mao, we need a batch of Chongyun’s popsicles, stat! I’ll handle the customer orders while Guoba takes over the floor!”
“You got it!”
“Sorry guys, I wish I could stay and help, but it’s gotten suuuper busy this week! Hope you feel better, Chongyun!” She said, tapping him on the shoulder and leaping away to the kitchen, Xingqiu following behind to the front counter, where Chef Mao was already hard at work mixing ingredients. He sat Chongyun down on the stool next to him and placed a hand on his forehead. The boy only grumbled in response.
“Aw, poor Yun-yun. Y’know, perhaps if you ate jueyun chili, it would cancel out the heat…”
“Xingqiu!” Chongyun pouted, trying to slap his shoulder lightly without falling off his seat. Xingqiu chuckled.
“I’m only kidding. Do you really think I’d put you in danger?” Chongyun frowned at him. Obviously he would, and has.
“Well, besides the chili thing. That’s still very funny. But-”
“Alright, order up!” Chef Mao announced, dropping a plate of six wrapped blue popsicles. “Be careful, boy,” he nodded at Chongyun, who desperately reached for one and put the rest in his jacket, patting himself to find his wallet.
“No need, I’ve already paid,” XIngqiu said. “In fact, I went ahead and deposited enough to last you this month. You really should let me pay our restaurant bills from now on. It’s the chivalrous thing to do on dates, after all,” he winked. In the same moment, Chongyun’s face heated up to the point where he felt as sick as before. Xingqiu laughed again and called for an extra popsicle to place on his friend’s head.
“Ok, ok, calm down, Yun-yun, I was joking.” As soon as Chongyun finally cooled off again, however, Xingqiu couldn’t resist whispering; “or was I?” And so the process began again.
“I hate you,” Chongyun muttered, hiding his bright red face in his hands.
“Aw, I know.” XInqiu said, satisfied. “Now come on, let’s go and look for your evil spirits,” he said, taking him by the hand to head for the other side of the harbour.
