I wasn't at my best state. I just couldn't leave her alone carrying her baby.
What if I am the real father?
"This is the final boarding call for flight 5J 463. I repeat this is the final boarding call for flight 5J 463. Please proceed now to your respective gate assignment. Plane will be leaving in 15 minutes. Thank you." The ground staff announced.
That was my flight. I had 10 minutes left to decide whether to push through or not.
I looked at my phone. I never changed my wallpaper. It was still Yanna's photo. I gripped my luggage's handle because I was nervous.
No, Hiro. Be a man.
In just a snap, I instantly ripped my ticket and proceeded to the main office.
I was about to click the button when Haze preceded.
"What are you still doing here? I heard the final boarding call." He strangely asked.
"I'm not going anymore." I firmly stated.
He was stunned by what I said. "Wtf Hiro?"
"Not now." Tapping my left foot.
I proceeded to my mom's office and told her about this.
I knocked three times before entering. She was surprised seeing me.
"What are you doing here? Your plane already left!"
I was straightforward and told her everything. As expected, she just cried. She always wanted a grandkid because Haze didn't plan to have one.
Mom helped me fix my flight details and move it 9 months from now.
After finalizing everything, I immediately called Shan to pick me at the front gate.
"What did you just say?" Shan rapidly asked.
"I want to see Yanna."
He picked me up and we first head over to my condo. Shan couldn't believe that a girl made me stay. Tiklop malala kay Ashianna.
Hindi ko kailanman pagsisisihang pinili muna si Yanna dahil alam kong kailangan niya ako. Alam ko. Ramdam ko. Anak ko yun. Anak namin yun.
I knew Yanna. She pushed me away so I could go on with my life and stick with the planned a made years ago. But things are different now. She changed my life, and I just couldn't let her go this way.
I asked Shan to call Sam if Yanna was still at her condo.
I was fixing my things when Shan excitedly ran into me.
"Yanna's staying with Sam now!"
I don't know why but I felt butterflies in my stomach. I was excited to see her again.
Before leaving, I placed the printed photo of her from our Sagada trip in a cute frame. Leaving it with a note below "My safe sky. The mom of my baby." Left in on my bed side table.
We first drove to a fast-food chain to grab a lunch for us. It was supposed to be my treat, but Shan insisted because he was happy seeing me again.
As soon as we arrived at Sam's condo, Shan asked me to go up first because I was too excited.
I bumped into a familiar man inside the elevator.
"Hiro? I thought you're leaving?" Kalix asked.
"Hello Kalix. I didn't push through. I wanted to stay with Yanna." I smiled.
"Oh yeah. I saw her earlier this morning having breakfast with Sam. So, are you staying for good now?"
"Uh no, I'm still leaving for flying school after I fix things with her."
"Alright then, I'll go ahead." Kalix tapped by right shoulder.
I was gathering all the possible emotions Yanna would give me. I prepared myself before knocking.
I really thought Sam would open the door for me.
It... was Yanna.
"Anong ginagawa mo dito?" that was the first thing she said.
I answered back, "I want to stay, Yanna."
Nawala ang tingin ko kay Yanna nang makita si Sam. Mukhang kakagaling lang sa shower dahil basa ang buhok. Pinapasok kami ni Sam.
Yanna wasn't looking at me. Shan gave me a signal.
I walked closer to Yanna and asked, "Can we talk?'
The whole conversation was fine. We agreed to a deal again. Just like how we started. We are just getting used to deals.
"Uh here, para maniwala kang 9 months lang ako pwede magstay." Binigay ko ang sulat na ginawa ni mommy kanina tungkol sa pagpapalit ko ng flight details.
"Please come home" pleasing her while holding her hand. She just nodded.
We went home the night of the same day. I was double cleaning the entire condo because I didn't want to cause trouble with the baby's health. I disinfected everywhere.
After cleaning, I decided to check up on Yanna if she needed something.
I saw her holding the frame. She ran towards me. She was sobbing so hard. She was asking for my forgiveness for not telling me the truth. For hiding everything for me. I never felt any hatred even if she lied to me. All I wanted was answers. I know how important my career is to Yanna. She has always been supportive about my dream. How could I get mad to her? I could still comeback to her and fulfill my duties as a father after I finish flying school.
1st, 2nd, 3rd months were okay. She was still attending physical classes. Her mood was still the same. Every time she would crave something, I immediately try to find the nearest around my condo place. I did want to leave her alone.
4th month was probably the craziest. She was already attending online classes. Her baby bump was bigger now, and I did not want to stress her out, away from pollutions as well.
She keeps on asking me foods that were hard to find. I would sometimes even ask Shan to find them for me. There were nights, mostly during midnight sessions, she would suddenly ask me to buy her fruits. Where the hell would I find fruits at 12 MN?! Or sometimes she would just randomly cry asking me if I would leave her for good or if I don't love her anymore. She's cute anyway but sometimes it just stresses me out.
5th month was Yanna's gender reveal. I wanted a baby girl.
We went home so happy because both of us wanted girl. Pinauna ko na siya sa kwarto dahil may gagawin ako. Pero ang totoo, nag iisip lang naman ako pangalan ni baby. I overheard Yanna and Shan's conversation before about the baby's name. She wanted to have our initials. A.H.
I searched online for a unique name.
Avrielle Haven. Avi for short.
6th – 7th month were the months I was most careful. I was very sensitive with her actions that might danger her and Avi. I clean the condo 3-4 times a day. I keep on disinfecting every room and every corner of the house. I did not let her come with me whenever I plan to restock our groceries. I would either call Shan for help or do it alone.
She can't argue with me this time because I always backfire her with "may bata sa tiyan mo".
And I was complacent for leaving to run my errands because Luna, Kierra, and Via would always come over. They would sometime even spend nights at home. I really don't mind because Yanna needed socialization too. Sam consistently calls Yanna every now and then. She would sometimes visit her too. Sometimes Sevi and Arkin would come too.
It was her 8th month when She was already complaining about her contractions. She often would ask help from me even when walking.
Until 9th month came. I was nervous about this labor. I have watched Youtube videos about pregnant women sharing their experiences. I hope Avi won't give her mom a hard time delivering her. I wanted a normal delivery.
Two days before the due date, Yanna asked her doctor is she was required to stay at the hospital because her contractions were really hurting her as hell. I prepared our things we needed for staying. I keep on cheering her up and giving her strength when in fact I couldn't give one for myself. I couldn't sleep. I kept on praying for a normal delivery. I didn't want to see Yanna having a hard time.
I wasn't feeling better so I couldn't drive. Shan was not available as well, but he asked Kuya Roel if he could drove us to the hospital.
Yanna kept on whining her contractions.
"Baby, ang sakit na sobra." She was sobbing while leaning on shoulders.
I could feel her pain just by holding her hand.
As soon as we got into the hospital, I ran fast as I could to ask for a nurse and a wheelchair for Yanna. Nurses immediately responded. Yanna was crying so hard. She said she wanted this to be over.
Just hold on my love. 2 more days, mahal ko.
It was her due date. I messaged her friends to come over and cheer Yanna before she leaves the room.
Yanna then fell asleep because she didn't do anything but cry and complain. I understood her. I was her side all the time, giving her what she might need.
She's laboring anytime soon.
It was a success! She delivered the baby so well.
I almost screamed inside the operating room knowing it only happened for 30 minutes. It was the best cry I heard in my entire life. I saw Avi. I saw the person behind why I really stayed. I saw my baby.
I was emotional the whole time we were at the OR. The moment I saw Avi, I knew I had a new reason to live.
We stayed for more days to heal Yanna's pain. I was fixing our things when Yanna hugged me from the back. I knew what she was telling me the moment she hugged me.
I didn't want to leave her, again. Now that she has a little Yanna by her side too.
But I had no choice. I must do this for our family's future.
We left the hospital and went straight to Yanna's house. I would be leaving her under her mom and auntie's supervision until I comeback. After dropping Avi and Yanna's things. I went back to my condo to fix my luggages. Yanna asked me to stay with her before I leave.
It was already nighttime, and I couldn't sleep. My flight was still at 3pm. I was gazing at the stars when Yanna came to me.
"Are you ready?" she caressed my hair.
I didn't notice my tears were starting to fall. My heart was crushing thinking of how my tomorrow would be knowing I would be far from my family.
"Love, I would be okay. We'll do this for Avi." She gave me a soft kiss on my lip.
I hugged her so tight.
It was morning when I heard a lullaby downstairs.
Yanna wasn't around when I woke up.
"Ah, may binili lang daw si Yanna sa labas." Her mom said.
I just went to check up on Avi. I feared crying her. She's too small for my arms.
"Buhatin mo na. Tulungan kita" auntie offered me some help.
I was nervous carrying Avi. Eversince she was born I couldn't carry her yet because I wasn't used to carrying babies.
My eyes were stuck to her pretty angelic face. I could see our resemblance. Great job, Ashianna and Hiro. I silently teased myself.
I was carefully caressing her nose, eyes, eyebrows, and her hair.
I could not even imagine how Yanna would do this all alone. I will never regret staying by her and giving up my dream for a while.
Yanna came home seeing me carrying Avi. I called her. She asked her mom to take a photo of us. We took many shots and angles so I wouldn't miss them much.
We ate early lunch because I need to be at the airport by 1:30. After eating, Yanna helped me pack my things. I suddenly stopped when I realized that this time, I really need to leave. What a déjà vu. But this time, I was sure I have a home to look forward to.
It was already 1:00 when I checked my watch. "It's time."
Yanna started to cry. I hugged her so tight. I tried my best to comfort her. This is the least I could do before I come back 2 years from now.
Masakit para sa akin iwan ang mag-ina ko. Ngunit kailangan ko munang umalis. 2 taong pag titiis lang, Hiro. Hindi ko na pinilit si Yanna ihatid ako sa airport. Instead, I asked my friends.
"Until we meet again. Safe skies brother." Shan bid his goodbye.
I was already inside the airport waiting for my flight to be called. Yanna called me last minute.
"I'm boarding na." as soon as I answered the call.
"Good bye, daddy! I can't wait to welcome my daddy pilot." Yanna imitated Avi's voice.
"I love you baby and mommy. I'll come home soon." Kissed my phone and ended the call.
It feels amazing that this would be my last time riding a plane that I was a passenger.
My flight from here to Florida was 18 hours and 6 minutes estimated. I slept a lot during my whole flight.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking. I would like to welcome you to Orlando International Airport. Our local time is 9:10 PM and the temperature is 21.5 degrees Celsius. On behalf of Fly Asia Airlines and the entire crew, I'd like to thank you for joining our trip. Have a nice stay."
As soon as I arrived at the airport, I called my uncle to pick me up from the airport. While waiting, I called Yanna. It's 9am in the Philippines by now.
Avi's usual routine was to eat breakfast by 9 am. When I called Yanna, she was eating breakfast with Avi. She was drinking her milk inside her crib while Yanna was eating spamsilog.
The call didn't last long because my uncle arrived immediately. I just told Yanna to wait for my call everyday.
The next morning, we were called to attend an orientation before proceeding to classes. We were taught of where our classes would be held. Aircrafts where everywhere. Pilots were roaming around as well. I felt fascinated to see pilots and planes. You'll get there, Hiro.
I did! I passed my exams! I'm a licensed pilot now.
Pilot-engineer, I mean.
After our graduation, my professor called me out.
"Mr. Akihiro, your skills impressed our faculties and administrators. If you want, I could get you a job in Orlando International Airport. Your credentials fit our requirements for the position."
"Thank you so much Capt. Grey for offering me a position, but I'm sorry I have to decline your offer. I have a family waiting for me in the Philippines. They are the reason why I studied here and finished my degree. A lot of aspiring pilots would fit better for that position."
"No worries, Hiro. I hope to see you again soon here, with your family. Until we meet again, Captain." I saluted.
I never told Yanna I was coming home earlier than expected. My graduation rites was held earlier than the proposed on from the school calendar.
I was excited to ride a plane because this time I wasn't just a passenger. I was a Captain already. I just can't wait to drive soon.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is Captain Haze speaking. I would like to welcome you to Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Our local time is 7:34 PM and the temperature is 32 degrees Celsius. On behalf of the entire crew, thank you for choosing Fly Asia Airlines. Have a happy stay in the Philippines. And welcome home, Captain Hiro." A smile was formed. Hearing from my brother calling me Captain makes my heart fluttered.
I was supposed to wait for Haze but he got a call from the office so he had to stay at the airport. I called Shan to pick me up.
"Hiro!!" Shan shouted. He ran towards me. I missed him so much.
We shared so much stories because we never got the time to actually talk while I was away. My free time was limited so I had to give them all to Yanna and Avi.
I spent my night at Shan's condo. I was planning to surprise Yanna and Avi tomorrow.
I asked Sam to help me.
There was this amusement park Avi wanted to try. She kept on telling me she wanted to visit Enchanted Kingdom. She was just 2 years old but once you get to talk to her, it looks like you're talking to a 5 year old kid.
That was my plan. I wanted to surprise them at EK.
I arrived at EK at 10 am. Yanna was calling me. She kept on updating me about their plan today. She was even sending me pictures. I had to lie about my signal that I couldn't answer her calls.
Sam was updating me their whereabouts.
I waited for an hour when Sam finally called me.
"Hello, Hiro? We're here. Sinabi ko magpapark ako para lang makababa sila sa car. Good luck! Enjoy and welcome home."
I was hiding myself. I used a cap and a mask to disguise.
It was so unexpected! I sat down in a long chair when I saw a girl walking towards me in my peripheral vision. I thought she was alone, but I heard a kid.
"Mommy mommy, where's Tita-Ninang?" it was a familiar voice. I looked back and to my shocked, it was Avi.
I immediately turned back again because I thought she saw me.
Pinapakalma ko ang sarili ko sa kaba nang bigla naman akong kalabitin ni Yanna. "Excuse me, may nakaupo ba?" I wasn't looking at her. I knew she would get mad for ignoring her politeness. I asked me again. "Hello, excuse me?" I wasn't ready to face them yet. Avi suddenly walked in front of me. "Hi!"
Yanna pulled Avi back to her and walked away. I was just following them wherever they would go and ride. Until it was sunset.
Avi asked Yanna to sit in where she could see the sun setting down. I was still following them. The moment they sat down the bench, Avi spoke. "Mommy picture! Send Daddy!" she was excited to let me know how beautiful the scenery was. After taking pictures, Yanna immediately sent them to me.
From: Mommy Love
Sent 10 photos.
I wish you were here with us, baby.
To: Mommy Love
I am.

Hahaha sana nga
To: Mommy Love
I really am. I was with you the whole time ;)
I removed my cap and mask.
Yanna turned her back and saw me. She stopped for a moment. She didn't know how to process herself until Avi touched her face. "Why are you crying mommy?" Avi looked to where Yanna was facing.
Her reaction was the purest. She got pretty shocked by seeing me. She ran to me and cried. "Daddy!" she was sobbing so hard. "You're home." She got small arms and hand but the way she hugged me felt like someone adult hugged me.
Yanna then walked to me. "You never said you're coming home."
"It wasn't a surprise anymore if I told you" I kissed her forehead.
"Daddy! Mommy said you drive plane?" Avi curiously asked.
"Yes baby it's called Captain." Avi was so amused.
I looked at Yanna, she was still processing my presence.
"Nananaginip ba ako?" her eyes were still sobbing.
"No love. This is real." I smiled while wipping off her tears.
"Wayez complete!" bulol na pagkakasabi ni Avi sa Juarez.
I didn't see this coming.
I'm finally home.
