"Mr.Drake" Tim's head snapped up as he focused on the young woman sitting in the chair across from him.
"Sorry, zoned out what were you saying?" The woman gave a deep sigh as she looked back down at the clipboard.
"You're always zoning out," she observed looking back up "Perhaps you're zoning out is connected to your desperation to escape the harshness of reality, such as when you were a kid you didn't want to believe that a human being was capable of committing such a horrid crime so your subconscious made up this metal man to justify the horrors of this world"
"Yeah, I suppose," Tim muttered paying little attention to what she had said. It wasn't like it was anything he hadn't heard before.
It has been almost ten years since the incident. Ten years of therapy, ten years of psycho analyzing, ten years of everyone thinking he was crazy.
The police never found his parent's killer but they were absolutely certain it wasn't the metal man that he had described. But it all had seemed so real to him. He could still feel that chill in the air, smell the stomach-curing mix of blood and oil, see the red-stained metal shining through the ripped-up chunk of flesh.
And yet even he knew that it sounded just so absurd. Tim wasn't sure what to believe anymore so he just told people what they wanted to hear.
"Timothy, you're not really giving me much to work with," the woman said tapping her pencil against the clipboard.
"What do you want me to say I watched a man kill my parents right in front of me?" he sighed laying back against the couch.
"But there's more to it than that isn't there?" She pressed but he was in no mood for it.
"No there isn't" Tim groaned.
"You can lie to me but you can't lie to yourself" She stated narrowing her focus at him "So what do you really believe?"
Timeskip
"How'd the session go," Dick asked keeping his eyes on the road as he drove away from the psychiatrist's office."Fine, I guess," Tim said with a shrug looking out the window.
"It's getting cold" Dick commented turning on the heater. Tim remained silent watching the flock of birds flying restlessly overhead.
