When I returned to the car, Abi was staring out the window with tears in her eyes. I hopped in the other side and turned to look at her.

"What's up, kid?"

"Nothing."

"Something is wrong."

"I nearly just killed someone. Someone who I've only just met. Imagine how her parents would have reacted if she didn't return home."

"Hey, c'mon kid. You need sleep."

We were driving home in silence when she spoke again.

"How's the case going?"

"It's good, thanks to you. We have his picture and we now know that he is after you. I read the letters."

"Oh. I didn't even read them."

"I thought you said you read the threats."

"Yeah, I did. I skimmed through it."

"But you didn't read this one and neither did I." I said and handed over the unopened envelope.

"I don't want to read it."

"Why not?"

"Because what if their is something in their that puts me at risk or is some massive secret that ruins my entire life."

"It won't, okay? If you want, I'll sit next to you and we can open it together."

"No, its fine. I'll open it later."

"Okay. Do you know the guy?"

"Who?"

"The one in the video."

"No. I've never seen him."

"It's okay. We'll find him."

"Okay."

When we got back home, Abi went straight to her room and I think she climbed into bed. She had the letter with her so I assumed she would read it but she never did. I opened her door an hour later to see her asleep on her bed, the letter on the floor.

"Hey, Abi. Wake up. You need to eat." I said to her.

"Not hungry." She said and rolled back over.

"I can hear your stomach."

"Bit weird."

"Abi."

"Fine." She said and rolled out of bed.

"You didn't open it, did you?"

"Nope. You can though considering all you want it for is for the case."

"That's not true."

"Yes it is. There you go. Knock yourself out." She said and handed me the letter.

I sat down next to her and held her hand as I opened the letter. She looked over my shoulder at the neat handwriting and screwed her nose up.

"Who's it from?" She asked.

"Um, some guy called Zane Harvey."

"Oh. What's it say?"

"To the love of my life-"

"Wait, what?"

"Hang on. Oh it's bullshit. It says 'to the love of my life, who am I kidding. I hate you and your entire family. Did you ever tell your granddaughter about what happened to her dad or even her brother. You know what brother I'm talking about.'"

"I've found out that my dad was killed by the boss or shall I say Zane Harvey. But my brother is alive and well, I think."

"You think?"
