Panic

"M-my mom's a murderer." Abi said, her voice quivering.

"Calm down, kid."

"Calm down? You want me to calm down? I lived with her!"

"I understand that and it's scary but your okay."

She got up from her seat and started pacing back and forth, her hand on her forehead as she tried to slow her breathing. She leant on the kitchen island and clasped her hands together, resting her head on her hands.

"Hey, you need to breathe."

"I-I can't breathe. It hurts." She said as she gasped for breath and put her hand on her chest.

"Abi, I need you to breathe."

"I can't, there's no breath."

"You have breath. Now breathe."

"I'm not a fucking dog Hank...I won't just breathe on command."

"Hey! How long have I know you for?"

"I don't know. A week."

"Okay. For that whole week you could breathe so I suggest you breathe. Okay?"

"Hank, it's not working." She said as her knees gave out on her and she fell to the floor.

I ran up to her and sat down next to her, holding her up as her hands shook and tears were running down her face.

I called Will and asked him what to do but all he told me was something that would piss Abi off.

"You need to breathe in for four out for four."

"I-I can't. Hank, I'm sorry."

"You can be sorry when your dead. So for now, breathe."

She followed my instructions as I held her hands in mine and locked eyes with her doing the in for four and out for four method. Abi slowly started to calm down and rested her head against my chest as she cried. I gave her a hug and kissed her on the head as she cried some more.

"Hey, it's okay. Let it all out."

"I don't understand what is going on. A lot has happened and it's just so...confusing."

"Zane Harvey is some guy that possibly killed your grandmother. Your mom tried to kill your father and Zane killed your dad. I think. I don't know. It has confused me too."

"Why wouldn't my nan open that one?"

"Maybe she knew what it would be so thought it was safer to just not read it."

"Can you find him?"

"I've already told Kevin and Jay to go and scoop him up. I have to go to the district and hopefully face him. What are you doing? I personally think you should come with me."

"No, Lily wants to meet up."

"You met up with her yesterday."

"I know but she wants to meet up and talk about things."

"Okay, text me where you are going, keep your location on and do not tell her about Zane."

"I won't."

"Okay. Good. I'll see you this afternoon, yeah?" I said and kissed her forehead before walking towards the door.

"Yep, see you at eleven."

*Abi's Pov*

Hank dropped me off at the park that I was meeting Lily at and he refused to leave until he saw she had turned up. I gave him a smile and a wave to tell him he could leave after he saw Lily had arrived. I was dressed in jeans and a white shirt as well as a baseball Jersey. Lily had her hair in a low ponytail and was wearing black jeans with a white knitted top. She looked beautiful.

"I absolutely love your outfit." I said to her as I went to sit on a bench.

"Thanks. Oh, I was wondering if maybe you wanted to come back to mine."

"Oh. I wanted to talk in the park where it was quiet."

"No one is home so it will be quiet."

"Um, okay. I'll talk to you as we walk."

"Sounds good. So, what's up?"

"I just wanted to say sorry for what happened yesterday."

"It's okay. Who were they?"

"I don't know. I probably just found something that they were looking for."

"I get you are very secretive and don't trust many people but you put me in danger. You could at least tell me what happened."

"Hank said I can't."

"Hank said this, Hank said that. Why is it always about Hank?"

"Because I'm not going to lose my relationship with him. I trust him."

"And you don't trust me?"

"No, I do."

I pulled out my phone and quickly sent Hank a text but didn't fully finish it.

Lily's house is-

"You shouldn't trust me." She said, which made me look up.

Something dark was shoved over my head as I reached out to grab Lily. I dropped my phone to the floor and kicked it under a car before I was dragged backwards towards a vehicle of some sort. I guessed it was a van because I heard a sliding door be slammed.

"Lily!" I shouted and kept reaching out but got stopped when my head was slammed into cold metal.

*Hank's Pov*

I got a text from Abi and looked down at my phone to read a half written message. I take it she was telling me the address of Lily's house or maybe she wanted to ask if she could go there. I have her location so I wasn't overly worried until I realised that she was in the same spot for twenty minutes.

"Adam?"

"Yes, Sarge?"

"Can you find this address?" I said and handed him my phone for the location.

He found the picture of the road and turned his screen to face me. It was pinpointed on the side of the road, right next to a kerb.

I rang Abi a few times but I got no answer so I decided to text her instead but still, no answer.

"Hank, what's going on?" Asked Jay as he handed Kim a coffee and looked at her screen.

"Abi's late. No...not late. It's strange. She's been in the same spot for twenty minutes."

"Where?"

"On the side of the road."

"Maybe she's taken a seat on the kerb?" Suggested Hailey.

"No, she wouldn't do that."

"Hank, let's not worry too much, okay? What time is she supposed to be here?"

"Eleven."

"Okay. So, she has an hour before she gets here. Let's just wait it out and see if she turns up. If not, we'll get right on it." Said Hailey.

"I can't do that. She always picks up."

"It will be okay, Hank." Said Hailey.

"What if it's not!?"

"Then we'll deal with it. As a team." Hailey said and patted me on the back.

I sat down in my chair and kept looking at my phone screen every two minutes. Her location wasn't changing and she hadn't even seen my texts.

My knee bounced up and down as I bit my nails and tried my best to think about anything else but Abi. It wasn't working. As a cop, every bad possibility runs through your mind over and over as you work out how you can save that loved one.

"Somethings not right." I said to Jay as he walked into my office.

A/N: Hey, sorry for not posting. It's been hard to write about loss in this book considering what has been going on currently. I will post a chapter tomorrow. Sorry for the wait :)
