OFF THE STREETS

FROSTBITE

Katsuki shivered, struggling to pull on his old blanket. He looked down to his sneakers, which had holes in them from the usage. He tried to tuck his feet under his thighs, not wanting them to get cold from the snow around him. He'd been living off the streets ever since he was born, so most people thought he was fine on his own. But he wasn't. For his first 5 years, he was struggling alongside his parents, and always felt protected. He constantly felt safe and loved. However, sometime during the summer, he woke up alone, with his parents nowhere to be found. Since then, he's been on his own.

Although you'd think the population of Hosu would be generous, to such a young child... They weren't. People walked past him every day, seeing his lifeless fingers, frozen from the cold weather. They noticed how red his face was, burned by the cold wind. Yet, nobody stopped to give him change, no clothes or meals. Young Bakugou was alone. He didn't mind it, although he missed his parents a lot. He was surviving, and that's all he could ask for, at the moment. He had to stay strong, too. Once the winter was over, he was determined that he would find his parents again.

Until then, he spends his cold days sitting on a street corner, next to a barber shop. It's a popular corner, in Hosu, which had led him to think he would get noticed. But nobody gave a damn about him, anyways. At least, that's what he thought.

The small blonde shivered, blowing warm air into the palm of his hands. He then hid them in his armpits, struggling to find warmth. The sound of footsteps surrounded him, along with soft Christmas music, which came from a nearby shop. He whined, pushing himself against the building as a wave of cold overcame him. He shut his eyes, tears threatening to fall. All these people- Walking by and ignoring him completely. It enraged him.

"Hello-! Are you sleeping?"

A squeal interrupted the child's thoughts, opening his eyes to his frozen surroundings. He looked up, eyes landing on a familiar green-haired boy. He recognized him, since he had seen him walk home from school a lot. The two had exchanged smiles, but nothing more. The blonde then looked up a little more, noticing a woman, which he assumed to be the boy's mother.

"Oh My- Izuku wasn't lying when he said you looked unwell- Where are your parents?" The woman instantly spoke, crouching down to make eye contact. Bakugou flinched, unsure of what to respond. Nobody had ever noticed him. And why did she have to ask about his parents? If he knew, he'd most likely be with them.

"Go away." A quivering whisper escaped the nervous boy's lips. He looked down, barely able to feel his face anymore.

"Do you have anybody I can get for you? There must be someone! This is no place for such a young child to be- In the middle of this storm!" The woman continued to ramble, pissing the young boy off. He was fine on his own- He didn't need to be pitied by someone, unless they were going to give him something. He knew it was greedy, but after spending so many months on his own, it's the only way he thought of, to survive.

"Here. Mommy and me made these for you. They're still warm! And... And she said it was okay for me to give you my favorite mittens! See? They're All-Might themed! He's the greatest hero ever." The young greenette spoke, handing Katsuki a set of colorful mittens, as well as some small pies. Bakugou took them, the heat of the meal warming his hands. He put the pies aside, eyes landing on the gloves. He frowned, not knowing what to answer. He looked up, eyes meeting with the small boy's emerald orbs.

"I don't need your stupid gloves. If All-Might is such a great hero, then nobody would be homeless. Dumbass." The small blonde groaned, tossing the mittens back at the freckled boy's face. The younger boy frowned, struggling to pick up his gloves. He was clearly upset from Katsuki's action but didn't seem to mind too much. Another gust of strong, cold wind came by, making the young blonde flinch and whine. His back hurt, it felt warm, even if he knew it was frozen. It wouldn't surprise him if he ended up catching some bad frostbite.

"Um- Please take them- Look at your fingers- They look dead!" The young boy whined, giving the gloves back. Katsuki snarled, refusing the offer.

"No. Go away. Are you fucking deaf?" He mumbled, shivering. He noticed the shocked look on the woman's face, as well as the tears appearing at the boy's eyes.

"My- That's no way to speak to someone who's trying to help you. Come on, Izuku. You can't help somebody who doesn't want to be helped." The woman spoke, taking her son into her arms. The certain Izuku immediately sobbed, throwing a tantrum.

"But... Mommy! No- He needs help! Mommy, no!" The greenette cried, getting carried away. Bakugou stared as the couple disappeared into the storm. Immediately, his eyes trailed down to the warm pies. He smiled at how they looked; one perfect, and the other a bit messy. He could tell which one was made by an adult, and which one was made by the child. But he thought it was cute, the amount of effort the freckled boy had put into it. He reached down into the plastic bag, taking out one of the deserts, and biting into it. It was Apple Pie.

He felt a bit bad for sending his helpers away, but he hated being pitied.

If only he knew, that was the last time he was going to see Izuku, for over 15 years, he wouldn't have sent him away.
