Wild's POV

I sat up from my cot. The blanket fell off my chest.

I scanned my surroundings, I swear I heard a strange sound.

Zelda grunted in her sleep from beside me.

Other than that, the meadow was quiet. Other than the usual nighttime sounds.

But instead of soothing me, they just set me on edge.

I petted the Fox that had wandered up to me before I went to sleep.

Animals always trusted me. They weren't afraid of me. They approached me, even when surrounded by unfamiliar people.

The only creatures who won't were blupees and the Lord of the Mountain.

I instinctively rested my free hand on my Slate. It was still there.

My right arm began to glow with that eerie green that reminded me of spirits.

Then the world tilted before going dark.

————————————————————————-

I was familiar with going through portals.

I had gone through plenty when I was journeying with the Chain.

So the feeling was familiar and dizzying. Like always.

When the world came back into focus, I kneeled over and tried not to vomit.

I raised my head to see that Hylia had dropped me off right in the middle of the Yiga Clan hideout.

They all paused, processing what just happened. It looked like they were training.

Finally, they realized that they should be attacking me.

But before they could, I raised a hand to tell them to give me a moment.

I stumbled over to the pit and retched.

I saw some Yiga wince or look like they might want to join me from the corners of my eyes.

Not long after I had recovered, I was thrown in a cell.

I groaned as I wrapped my hands around the bars and leaned back.

I was the only thing in the cell. They had taken away my slate.

I looked down at my arm. It was dark but the coils wrapped around it were still gold.

I concentrated. I grunted, I hadn't gotten the hang of this yet, and the reaction isn't always instant.

Finally, after a few minutes, my arm lit up green.

I grinned as I reached it through the bars. But halfway in, the light flickered and died. Leaving my arm stuck in a wooden beam.

I braced my foot against a bar, grabbed my arm with my other l, and pulled.

I strained against the bars. Then my arm ignited again, momentarily, and my arm flew from its cage, causing me to fall on the ground.

I glared up at the celling.

It was going to be a rough night.

————————————————————————-

I woke to the sound of struggling.

"Get off me!" A female voice cut through my sleeping state.

I pulled my eyes open to see a Yiga blademaster dragging along a Gerudo warrior.

I hurriedly closed my eyes when the blademaster looked my way.

I heard a cell be opened, and the Gerudo shoved inside. The Gerudo screamed insults at the Yiga as he walked away.

I didn't reopen my eyes until the Yiga's footsteps had fully faded away from behind the prison door.

I sat back up and looked through the bars of two cells to the Gerudo who was on her feet. She was gripping the bars and glaring at the place the Yiga had disappeared.

She had the looks of a typical Gerudo, with the exception of Ashai and a few others. But this Gerudo was unfamiliar to me.

"Who are you?" I asked.

The Gerudo looked my way sharply. Her shoulders slumped and she visibly relaxed when she saw I was just a captive Hylian.

"Livaena." She said. "Who are you?"

"Call me Wild." I said, mentally scanning my memory for her.

"Don't worry." She said, looking up and down the hallway. "Lady Urbosa will be here with her new team soon."

I had stopped listening when I heard that word. That name. The name of a woman who was long dead.

"What's the status on Calamity Ganon?" I asked with genuine curiosity.

"All I know is he's coming." She said.

I slumped. My head rested in my hands. So I was in the time before the Great Calamity.

I blinked back tears as I thought about seeing the Champions alive and well, a love who doesn't know Wild, and a Link who will die at the hands of the Calamity.

And I was powerless to stop it.

But then... I can stop it. I can warn the Champions and Princess and change the course of history.

"Don't worry little Voe." Livaena said. "I know we can stop him."

"I'm not afraid for myself." I said, lifting my head back up.

We settled into a comfortable silence.

The guard came around once to deliver lunch and that was it.

Then I heard it.

I stood up and drifted to the far wall, keeping my new Zonai-arm hidden beneath my cloak.

"What is it Wild?" Livaena asked worriedly.

"I hear fighting."
