I awoke the next morning to Mom yelling that she was leaving. Johnny snored away, apparently sleeping like the dead.

No wonder he dressed like a skeleton for halloween.

I quickly yanked the chair from under the door, opening it just in time to see Mom face-to-face.

"Oh, you're awake. What's that noise?" She asked.

"Uhm," I could feel my brain burning for an explanation. "It's this app I downloaded to help me sleep. Kinda like a sound machine. I think this one's called 'Dying Wallrus', it woke me up. Definitely my least favourite."

"Okay," Mom drawled out, she obviously didn't quite believe me. Or she thought I was weird. "Well, your Dad is sleeping, please don't wake him - his shift starts in two hours."

"Got it. Have a nice day at work, Mom. Love you."

"You, too, Honey. See you later. Kisses!" She added that last part, blowing kisses at me. I smiled until she was gone, then poked Johnny in the side with my toe. He gave a last startled snort and flew upright.

"I'm up!" I couldn't help but laugh.

"Shh, my dad's sleeping next door."

He rubbed his eyes and stared at me.

"We can head out as soon as you're ready, Sleeping Beauty."

"Oh, so you find me attractive now, Sunshine?" He grinned. I threw a pillow in his face.

"Don't flatter yourself." I asked him to close his eyes so that I could get dressed. He snorted but did as I asked. I pulled on some jeans first and then turned around to pull on a shirt.

I turned around to catch him staring at me, a confident smile dancing on his lips.

"Dude! Not cool!" I ranted, my cheeks burning.

"You're the one who turned around, Sunshine." He pulled on his jacket as I silently fumed. We left without breakfast.

We checked everywhere I thought he might have gone: the amusement park, the arcade, the beach, the lagoon. Daniel LaRusso was nowhere we could seen. By noon, we were both feeling tired and deflated, not to mention hungry.

I stopped at the same hotdog stand as the previous day, noticing that Eric was there again.

"Back for more so soon?" His smile wasn't boastful, like Johnny's, but shy and unsure. Cute.

"What can I say, you've got the best hotdogs in town."

We laughed and talked for a couple of minutes before waving an awkward goodbye.

"Today was somehow worse than yesterday." Johnny mumbled as I handed him the hotdog. "Dude has no game when it comes to chicks."

"I dunno, I think he's great."

Johnny gave me a baffled look. "Seriously. You find weakness attractive?"

"No, I find Eric attractive." I laughed, knowing I was getting under his skin.

We ate in silence, the same as before. "Listen, I know you're eager to kick LaRusso's ass and all but our strategy isn't working."

"What do you suggest we do?"

"Well, we could try letting him come to us. Maybe if we stop looking for him, we'll find him."

"You do realize that that makes NO sense?"

"Just trust me, alright?"

"Fine. Just this once, Diaz." I smiled victoriously.

We went to the arcade and played competitive games for the rest of the day. I showed him the beach and promised to take him to the lagoon the following day. The aimless strolling was kind of relaxing, reminding me that it was summer break and this was what I was supposed to be doing. Hanging out with friends - even though Johnny was anything but - and having fun.
