(Y/N)'s POV

It's been eight years since Violet was admitted to Green Haven mental hospital for the criminally insane. Her actions all those years ago changed everything and the road to recovery was long and slow. After word got out school was shut down for two months due to tensions running high and the administration worried about the emotional and mental health of its students. Even when the school opened back up again I never returned. It was just too painful so instead, I got my GED. Right now I was walking into my therapist's office and was greeted by his secretary.

Amy: Good afternoon Mr. (l/n). I will tell Dr. Anderson you are here.

(Y/N): Thank you.

Dr. Anderson was a good man and I started seeing him after the incident because I was having a lot of panic attacks.

Amy: He's ready to see you now.

She opened the door for me and I took a seat on the couch before she closed the door.

Dr. Anderson: (y/n) it's good to see you again, but you seem a bit off this week. What's going on?

(Y/N): It's been a tough week doc.

Dr. Anderson: Why don't we start at the beginning?

(Y/N): On Tuesday I bought a newspaper and I saw a wedding announcement for Scarlett Ellis.

Dr. Anderson: Scarlett Ellis is the one whom you went through the trauma with?

(Y/N): Yes.

Dr. Anderson: What happened after you saw this news?

(Y/N): I started thinking back to ummm the incident.

Dr. Anderson: What about the incident?

(Y/N): All the pain she went through and how it was my fault. I felt guilty.

Dr. Anderson: Why did you feel guilty?

(Y/N): Didn't you hear me? I said because it was my fault.

Dr. Anderson: It wasn't your fault. You are not responsible for the actions of Violet and in all honesty, there was nothing you could've done to change it.

He took a deep breath.

Dr. Anderson: This announcement shouldn't be negative for you, it should be positive. She's ok and moving on with her life, so even if you do blame yourself she's better now.

(Y/N): I never apologized.

Dr. Anderson: Excuse me?

(Y/N): I felt guilty because I never got to say I was sorry. After the incident, her parents wouldn't let me see her because they did blame Violet and me. I never saw her after the day we were saved and in the back of my mind, I always wanted to apologize in case she wasn't getting better.

Dr. Anderson: But you were able to put it out of your mind because she was no longer in your circle and then when you saw the news it all just came rushing forward.

(Y/N): I guess you're right because I am happy for her, but I don't want to reach out.

Dr. Anderson: Because you are worried that it will bring back memories and ruin her life.

(Y/N): Yes.

Dr. Anderson: But you don't know that it will. I think the real issue is that you are liking yourself to Violet and treating yourself as a disease around people who know your history. You are afraid to infect them.
