I turned briefly when Kong fell fast asleep on my shoulders. But he seemed so tired and peaceful sleeping that I didn't have any heart to wake him up. I let him be.

His mother saw him sleeping but just smiled. We continued watching and chatting throughout the movie. Once it was over, I told her to head on to sleep. I just watched shows till about 2am when Kong stirred awake.

"Hey, omg why didn't you wake me up? I'm sorry.'

"It's ok. I know you are exhausted so it's fine."

"I.. sorry. Can't believe I did that. Please, please go sleep in my room. You must be tired."

"Then you?"

"I sleep here on the couch. Go on. Its late already."

"It's fine Kong. I think we can share the bed right? Come on, like you said, it's late already."

I dragged Kong along with me. I usually slept with no shirts on and so did Kong so we sought each other's permission before doing so. We laid in the bed, each on one end. I wished him good night before I turned on my side.

I found myself unable to sleep and just laid there with my eyes wide open. Just then I heard Kong ask softly if I was still awake.

I turned over to see him. "Yea I am. Couldn't sleep. You?"

"Couldn't sleep either. Been meaning to ask you something.. "

"Yea?"

"How come you came here? I don't have anything against it. I was just very surprised to see you.."

"I.. just wanted to make sure you were OK. What you are going through isn't easy.. I was just feeling uneasy so decided to come see you. Don worry I didn't tell them I know anything. Told them I was just here to surprise you for the weekend."

Kong looked at me for a long time but didn't say a word. I just smiled at him and turned to sleep. A few moments later, Kong shuffled closer towards me, briefly hugged me from the back quickly, muttering thank you and moved away. By the time I turned to him, he was on his side. I jsut smiled and left it as it was.

I woke up hours later to an empty bed. I took a shower, changed into a fresh set of clothes and went down to see Kong's mum setting the table.

"Hii honey, awake? Come on and have something to eat.'

',Where's Kong auntie?"

"He brought his father for a medical appointment."

"I see. Okays sure. I hope uncle is fine. What's for breakfast? Have you eaten? Join me?'

"Uncle.. he be fine... i believe. Yea I have eaten. You eat first ok. Let me serve you."

As she was prepping the breakfast items, I felt some warm tears drop on my hands. I looked up, she was crying and hastily wiped it away.

"Sorry dear, think something got into my eyes."

"It's ok. If you need to express it, do so. It's not the easiest thing to keep so much of pain hidden and pretend all is well. I know."

I jsut placed my hands over hers. She looked at me, sat down and started crying. I tried to comfort her to the best of my extent. She told me everything and was surprised to know I knew and yet I didn't say anything. I just told her I wanted to come by to keep all of them distracted during this trying time. It's the least that I could do for Kong, I felt.

His mother smiled at me. I finished off breakfast and we started on lunch prep together. We also had lunch and I brought her out for some light shopping to distract her mind. We came back around 5pm with snacks and tea to prep for tea time. Both Kong and his dad came back around 6pm looking completely exhausted. Kong's mother got her husband to the room to get him to shower and all. I watched Kong who just collapsed on a chair nearby. He sat, his eyes glimmering with unshed tears.

I went and bent down infront of him, "Kong.."

"It was painful Beam. Watching him go through radiotherapy today. It took so much out of him though he tried to look stoic. I cannot imagine doing this for the next 1 month in and out. I'm the spectator and its so hard on me. What more for him?"

Kong just burst out crying. I leaned forward to hug him tightly.

"It's not going to be easy. But he finds strength in you being strong for him. You have to be so he continue to be strong. I'm here for you ok.."

I held onto him as he cried. A few minutes later, I just heard sniffling and I got him to go shower first. Whilst his mother settled his father, I settled Kong.

Both of us brought both men out for tea. We didn't force them to eat. Just let them decide if they wanted to. It was a mirrored sight as Kong's mother fussed over her husband whilst I fussed over Kong.

Kong's father retired to the room after tea, wanting to rest. Kong just sat on the couch, aimlessly surfing channels. His mother and I switched for a while; she spoke to her son whilst I just checked on uncle.

When I came out, Kong was not there. I looked towards his mom who motioned he was in the room. I nodded and went in to check on him. He was just sobbing quietly whilst seated on the bed. My heart lurched watching him.

I involuntarily found myself hugging him whilst he sobbed, my own tears threatening to come down.
