Oh my God, is this a romance novel?!
I stare at the hardbound book with the bright pink colored cover.
'The Real Way To Love' ... What a sappy title... I bet the story is real sappy too.
I flipped the book around to check the summary of the story.
'The person I love loves someone else but he's only being used. Why can't he notice that? That's why I made a promise with myself to show him what love really is...but then there's this really mean guy who mocks me because I'm not skinny nor pretty enough! But I didn't mind him and followed my heart. Little did I know that the person I love was such a flirt! But then that mean guy stayed by my side when I was heartbroken. I don't understand if he's bad or not. Now, the man that I used to love suddenly shows me slight affections of love? Oh, what do I do?!"
...It's like Bridget Jones's Diary...
Well, I'm seriously out of things to say. This is befuddling. I never thought that Miran was one who read these sorts of stories. Aren't these for single and lonely women?
"Hey, Miran...?" I tap his shoulder but he doesn't seem to be noticing.
"Miran!!" I slap his back and he releases a pained sound.
"What..." He menacingly turns around and gives me the glare of a lifetime. "-is it?! Can't you see that I'm busy?!"
He notices the book that I'm holding and he immediately grabs it and shoves it back in his bag.
"Umm... Miran, do you like reading those kinds of stories...?" Is it true? I mean, Miran doesn't look like that sort of person at all. I thought that he'd be the kind who's interested in things like science fiction...
"D-do you have any problem with that?! I recall that I have the right to read whatever I want!" He says that but he's clearly embarrassed by it.
Is he embarrassed because I found out that he likes reading those sorts of books? That's a new side of him... maybe I can use that weakness to manipulate him!
"No, there's nothing wrong about it at all!" I wave my hands together to keep him from misunderstanding. "It's just that... Why do you like reading those books?"
"Hah." Miran scoffs. "A commoner like you wouldn't understand the beauty of such intricate and fragile thinking put into words like these romance novels."
I'm not sure what this guy is even thinking anymore. Aren't those kinds of plots cliche? There's about a hundred thousand of them everywhere. Comic books, ebook, etc. They're all just the same, really.
Come to think of it, Miran did ask me earlier if I believed in fate... Is he quoting the oldest line in the book or something? I can't believe he's that sort of man.
"I... see. You really like romance novels, don't you?" I ask, feeling a sense of discomfort.
A guy who likes to read romance novels, huh? I bet girls would like men like him... Though, what am I thinking about anyway?
"Of course. I enjoy reading them as a past time. They're so unique and dramatic. The feelings of the characters reach straight through me..." Miran looked happy as he talked about his obsession for books.
Like I was saying, those plots are cliche... but it looks like that isn't his weakness. He seems to clearly enjoy reading and isn't afraid to share his opinions about it.
"That's sort of cute..." I giggle.
Huh? Oops. I said my thoughts out loud.
"Cute, eh? I'm not looking for a romantic partner anytime soon. Just because this successful man is living with you doesn't mean that I like you so don't misunderstand. Take a hike, Mike." With that, Miran continued doing whatever he was doing... work related stuff.
