Dev sat on her throne. Hells volcano had grown dormant during her rule, and the demons that were forced to follow her were extremely sad about it. Demons representing sloth had never ruled Hell before, and it was clear why, but Satan didn't have another heir. It had been almost a century since Gia had killed her father, and she was still waiting for the same thing to happen to her, as it had happened to all of her ancestors. The throne of Hell was built to hold her up, but the weight on her shoulders was immense, and the throne wasn't helping.
"My queen, we have word of your grandfather in the mortal plane."
Dev sighed and rubbed her forehead. "So Lucifer is back on his shit again... being split in thirds wasn't enough? And what's he doing?"
"He's trying to tempt a mortal healer born to a broken marriage. Apparently she was a virgin when she gave birth, and her husband was very upset. He didn't kill her, though, which is odd... but he claims to be the son of The Origin, apparently Gia is keeping her eye on him."
She took the report from her assistant and read it over, laughing and shaking her head. "So my great great grandfather grants this shitty mortal unbelievable power and expects him to save the world? No wonder it dragged that snake out of his hole... Gia must be pissed that The Origin is playing with her toy..." she sighed and tossed the report away, going back to her throne and sighing. "We could go say hi to him... maybe check out the situation."
Her assistant nodded and opened a portal to the mortal world, about a mile away from the mans location. He bowed as he exited her throne room. She stood up and went through the portal, turning into a different dress to make herself look like a prostitute. She walked to the man who was sitting on a rock in the middle of the desert. He smiled to her and nodded.
"Good morning, Lady of Hell."
Dev scoffed. "Well, it's clear that you're more knowledgeable than most mortals. Probably my third grandpa telling you what I looked like. What are you doing out here?"
"I'm fasting. I ate far too much, and... don't tell my creator, but a man that abused my gift to him died recently, and their family expects me to revive him. I really don't want to."
Dev chuckled and looked around. "Wow, that sounds more like me than Gia. I wonder if you have some of me given to you by the old man."
"It's possible. I do seem attracted to devilish people... everyone was baffled that I chose a tax collector as one of my closest friends."
"I can see why... the report said that you accepted beggars and thieves into your home, that hasn't really been Gia's MO."
"I noticed... when I came here, they didn't seem too fond of me. Quite the difference between me and the warriors that Gia promised... my sister has not been doing too well."
Dev nodded a bit and sighed. "I preferred the ancient Greeks... they saw things that they couldn't explain, and called them gods, instead of hearing about it from a bunch of crusty old men and going along with that. They really see Gia as the perfect being after she killed 50% of their children..."
He chuckled and nodded. "Yeah... at least she's trying to help someone, and not trying to tempt me to throw myself off a cliff."
"Ah... you met my grandfather... how did that go?"
"Oh, I exorcised him into a pig and made him walk off a cliff and drown."
Dev burst out laughing and clapped. "That's amazing! He hates pigs too, that's perfect!"
He smiled to her and nodded. "I figured it was a fitting end, for the fallen angel to fall to his death... you have a beautiful laugh, by the way, miss Dev."
Dev chuckled and looked away. "Well, you're very funny... Thank you for the laugh."
He nodded and looked out over the desert. "Oh, I think that's his little sister coming. Guess it's time to get off my ass... it's been nice, meeting a demon that doesn't hate me. I'll see you around, Dev."
Dev nodded to him and smiled. "See you around, son of Joseph."
He smiled and nodded to her, going to meet the young girl as Dev disappeared, going back through the portal. Dev chuckled at the misery of her grandfather and sighed, sitting in her throne and thinking of the man. She flipped a coin in her hand and smiled, Hells volcano suddenly erupted and reignited the rivers of lava, as her heart opened up once again, so did Hell's surface.
