Nyx walked out of the cave, sighing and breathing the fresh air. She put her book away and started to walk away before hearing a loud cracking sound.

Quincy pulled her arms and stretched her back. "Agh, damn that feels good. Stupid cave, keeping me from walking around."

"Hey, why aren't you in the book? I didn't summon you."

"Oh, sorry sugar, I don't follow the same rules as the rest of them. I'm out and about when I feel like it, and if you call my name. I've got a power level beyond your understanding."

Nyx walked by her. "Sound like an arrogant god."

Quincy laughed and followed behind her. "I've killed a few of those~ Also made one of them my bitch, I'm sure he's dead by now though."

Nyx stopped and looked at Quincy for a moment. "Gods don't die... and they can't be killed."

"Have you ever heard of Gia, Keran, and Farentia?"

"No..."

"Exactly. Because I killed them. Gia was an arrogant fool, she had an army of angels and tried to wipe out a third of the population. Humanity was the only force in the universe that could do that."

Nyx sighed and stepped out of the woods into a clearing. "You got that right... enough people feel depressed enough that they don't breed, and the ones in charge see certain groups as unnecessary or loathsome. Society's end goal is to destroy itself, there isn't any way to change that."

Quincy smiled and floated in front of her. "I like you~"

Nyx pushed Quincy away and walked towards a road. "We're heading to a town, so you'll have to go back into the book. Seeing a demon isn't exactly commonplace around here."

Quincy rolled in the air and her skin turned to a more natural dark color, her eyes stayed red, but her horns shrank into her skull. She wrapped her arm around Nyx's and smiled to her. "No one will see a demon, just a sweet young couple~"

Nyx sighed and pulled her arm away from Quincy. "A couple of business partners, in the middle of a transaction. If you hold up your end of the deal, maybe I'll allow you to touch me. Till then, give me a few feet of space."

"I won't need permission, your soul will be mine. You don't get boundaries between you and your personal property, sweetie."

Nyx ignored Quincy and kept walking towards the town, looking in all the shop windows. "We need to restock on food... and get some supplies to get into the castle. The magic barrier won't stop me, but the guards certainly will... we'll need to scale the wall."

Quincy picked up one of the blacksmiths hammers, smiling and gripping the head. "Or we could go through the wall. It's about two feet of solid brick, shouldn't take too many strikes."

Nyx snatched the hammer away from her. "And who is gonna stop the barrage of arrows when the royal archers hear us? We're going over. We need rope."

Quincy frowned and sat up on the shop table. "You're no fun."

The blacksmith stepped away from his forge and tapped his hammer against the table. His voice sounded artificial, almost robotic. "Excuse me miss, but your ass is on my workstation."

Quincy smiled to him and pat the table. "Wanna come join me?~"

Nyx sighed. "Sorry about her, I'm Nyx, I was hoping I could ask you for something?"

"My name is Michael. If you get your friend off my table, I'll make you whatever you need, what do you want?"

"A hook, something light but sturdy. Something that can hold a person, maybe cut stone?" Nyx pulled Quincy off of the table and pulled out her purse and wallet.
