Maia was mad, furious even. She had just found out the king had exiled Daemon, she heard it was because he had spoken in an ill manner towards the king's son who had recently passed away. She wasn't upset that he was exiled, no, she was pleased about that. What has her outraged is the fact that the king had asked her, or rather commanded, her to stay at the castle and serve Rhaenyra.

Why? She had no clue, why would the king want her  to serve the princess.

She didn't understand until she remembered why she was here, she was here because she had the ability to ride dragons, the king must have seen that as a threat. I mean, for decades it has only been Targaryen's with this ability, and now suddenly a child outside of the family was born with it, he must have asked her to stay as a way to keep her close.

Her getting wed to Daemon made her mad, but she could accept it, arranged marriages happened all the time, however, the king forcing her to stay away from her family for who knows how long because he saw her as a threat for the ability they both share, she couldn't accept that.

She just hopes she will be able to contain her anger towards him otherwise she might just find her head on a spike.

Maia was taking a walk around the palace gardens, hoping to find something to occupy her time. Her eyes roamed around the beautiful greenery and landed on a figure sitting under a tree.

Taking a few steps closer, she recognised the figure to be the princess. ''Princess?'' Maia called out.

Rhaenyra lifted her head up from the book she was reading and laid her eyes on Maia. ''Maia, you startled me'' she says putting a hand on her chest. Maia let out a small smile ''My apologies princess.''

Rhaenyra waved of the apology ''Would you like to join me?'' Maia began walking toward the princess. ''I would love to.''

Rhaenyra moved to the side slightly to make space. Maia lifted the ends if her dress up and took a seat right next to the princess.

Both girls sat in comfortable silence.

''How do you feel being engaged to my uncle?'' Rhaenyra suddenly asked, breaking the silence. Maia was a little taken aback at the sudden question before taking in a deep breath and letting out a long sigh.

''Honestly, I don't know.''  Rhaenyra turned to her with furrowed brows ''What do you mean?''

''Well, I'm not completely opposed to the idea of being married, it's just that, your uncle isn't exactly husband material.''  Rhaenyra simply nodded in understanding at her words and stayed silent waiting for her to continue.

''I don't have a choice in the matter, which is what bothered me the most. If I am to be wed, I wish for it to be with someone I love''   Maia turned to the princess, who seemed to be in deep thought.

''What about you. Do you wish to marry?''

Rhaeynra scoffed and lightly shook her head. ''I don't have a choice, once I come of age my father won't hesitate to send me off to the first suitor.''

''And if you could choose your husband? Then would you want to?''

Rhaenyra looked down at her hands and contemplated Maia's words. ''I suppose I would, but, that will never happen. I am the princess, it is my duty to marry a wealthy influential man.''

Maia put a hand on Rhaenyra's shoulder and offered a gentle smile. ''You are so much more than your title Rhaenyra, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.''

Rhaenyra lifted her head and met Maia's eyes. She returned the smile and pulled Maia in for a hug, causing the women to freeze momentarily in shock before wrapping her arms around the princess. ''Thank you, Maia. I needed that.''

Maia rubbed comforting circles on the young girl's back and smiled at her words. ''Anytime princess. Anytime''

The two girls pulled away and sat close to one another, talking about whatever came to their mind. Maia didn't realize how much she missed just talking to someone, no stress about arranged marriages or the duties that fall upon them because of their gender. Just two young women finding solace and understanding in each others presence.

Maybe this won't be so bad after all
