Song: Why'd you only call me when you're high? - The Arctic Monkeys
~
Daisy White
Friday
"Yeah, uh... Night, Daisy."
He said that so carelessly. So boldly. So emotionless. So moronic. It bugged me. Didn't he care, at all? Was the entire night just a joke? Or was he so excited for a bloody joint that I didn't matter?
Now I was in bed, probably already past eleven, yet I was wide awake. Pansy had already dozed off; according to her snoring. Astoria was in bed when we got here. By how silent she was, she was also asleep. And I? I was staring at my roof.
Soundless. The room was silent. Except for the occasional snork that echoed.
Until there was a soft bang that echoed the room. It made me frown. Seconds later the same clank echoed again.
I sat up, my eyes looking at the door, but the third clank made me look at the window. I shot out of my bed and slowly peered open the window, before I saw Theo on a broom floating in front of it. I pulled it further open.
"Are you crazy?" I asked in shock. "Do you know the ti-"
Barely half my fury in, I noticed a big smile on his lips and then his semi-red eyes. He even looked droopy if someone just looked at his body language.
Well, all this would've been oblivious to me if Pansy didn't point it out to me the other day.
"Are you high?" I asked.
Theo shushed me, making me check to make sure that Pansy and Astoria were still asleep. When I looked back at Theo, he seemed even happier.
"What do you want?" I asked.
He laughed lightly. "Come on."
A frown formed above my eyes. "What?"
"Come!" he said, gesturing for me to get out of my window.
I scoffed. "No, Theo. It's quarter to twelve. I'm not going to climb out of my window to get on a broom with-"
"Please," he begged.
He wasn't himself, and I could hear it. He was, how do I say this... really stupid. Of course he isn't the smartest person out there, but at the moment he was just completely careless.
"Please, Daisy. Only n couple of minutes..."
Oh, Merlin. No, Daisy. Don't do it.
I sighed, checking to see if they were still asleep, before hesitantly climbing onto the windowsill. Carefully I stepped onto the barely ten inch ledge outside, gripping onto the wall. I couldn't even look down.
"Be careful now," Theo said as he moved closer to me. "Come on. I've got you."
But suddenly I couldn't. I didn't have it in me. I should not have done this, I thought.
"I've got you," Theo said again as he held his hand out. "Come on."
Suddenly it was as if I was floating. His eyes looked at me reassuringly, and he looked alive. Not high, nor careless, nor bitter. He looked the way he did that day in the field. Free.
The next thing I knew, I was knocked into reality when the cold air gushed against my bare arms.
I was still in pajamas.
And I was on the broom with Theo, holding onto him for dear life. I hated flying. I hated it with my life. I don't care who was controlling the broom; I didn't want to be on it.
"Theo, land this broom," I begged once I came to my senses. "Theo, please land this bloody thing!"
"Alright," I heard him say.
I had my head buried against his back. I couldn't even open my eyes. Couldn't dare. It was too high. Way too bloody high for my liking.
"Hey," I heard, before feeling a cold hand touch mine. "We're on the ground."
I didn't feel the ground. So I shook my head.
"We're hovering over it, Daisy. Trust me."
Trust him? Merlin, I wish I could do it that easily.
"Here," he whispered, slowly loosening my hands. "Keep your eyes closed."
Then I felt him move. My eyes tightened shut, my left hand still feeling the skin of his arm. Meanwhile, the broom became lighter.
"Now," he said, suddenly speaking from beside me. "Open your eyes, and let me help you down."
Slowly I did as he said. My eyes gently opened up, and he was right. The broom was only hovering.
He held onto my hand as he helped me get off. When my feet landed on the ground, his broom dropped to the floor.
"Great," he said, and as if he never acted sober, he dropped onto the floor.
I looked around, and realized that we were in front of the lake. But not at the castle, or that boathouse Pansy told me about. We were in the woods, but right at the lake.
I looked in awe. It was gorgeous. The moon was bright, and the stars were shimmering. It was breath-taking.
He sat down on the ground, which was to my relief not sand, but normal grass and dirt.
"Sit, flower."
I frowned. "Flower?" I questioned. "You drag me out of bed- out of my warm bed, for what? Sitting in the cold in the middle of Merlin-knows-where? Are you mentally unwell?"
Theo simply just started laughing. It made me scoff.
Looking around, I felt my skin become prickle from the cold. I was really barefoot with only shorts and a short-sleeved pajama shirt. All in the bloody cold.
"Why am I here, Theo?" I asked, looking down at him.
He then met my eyes, and a flash of sadness appeared over them. "I was lonely-"
"You have friends in your dorm."
"I wanted you."
"You have a girlfriend."
"She's not you, Daisy."
She's not me. She's not me. She's not me. She's not me. She's not me. She's not me. She's not me. She's not me. She's not me.
Fucking hell, Theo. She's not me.
I sighed. "Why me, Theo? Come on. You're causing trouble."
He looked at me, and I knew that he knew. "Please, Daisy. Sit." He gestured beside him.
I did as he asked. I sat down beside him.
