It's crazy how fast your life can change. One moment you're living the best life possible, the next you are in an ambulance fighting for your life. I've always thought I had good karma, doing good and getting good in return. I must have really done something to piss off the universe.
I sighed as I walked into math class, a class I always dreaded going to. Like seriously when would I use calculus in my life. I wanted to be be a fashion designer or something like that. I clasped the locket that always hung from my neck. I smiled as I thought of the picture that would forever be placed inside. On one side were my mother, father, and me. On the other side was a picture of my mother in high school.
"Hey Carson!" My best friend Ryan said, slipping into the seat next me and draping his arm over my shoulder.
"Get off of me you dork." I pushed his arm away, laughing as he gave me his best pouty face.
"You know that never works on me Ryan" I shook my head, playfully rolling my eyes.
"Oh yea, I forgot you have no emotion." Ryan teased. I playfully punched his arm, hitting him a bit harder than usual. He knew I hated when people said that yet that was his favorite way of messing with me.
"I'll have you know I have plenty of emotion!" I sat back in my seat watching him rub his arm.
"I'm just kidding! You don't have to give me a bruise each time I say it." He looked at his arm and I rolled my eyes. I had never left him a bruise before considering he was much more muscular than me.
"Oh please, stop being baby!" I laughed, taking out my homework from the night before. I looked over at Ryan seeing him start to copy mine.
"Ryan, do you ever do your homework?" I feign annoyance, but it really doesn't bother me. I've known Ryan since we were 6, and he was there for me throughout the worst moments of my life and I don't think he'll ever know how grateful I am.
"Nope, that's why I have you." He gives me a wink and a cheeky grin and I roll my eyes scoffing at him.
"Oh please, you know you couldn't live without me." I give him a grin and turn to focus on what the teacher is saying.

I walk the short distance to my aunt's house after school, enjoying this nice weather. It was the beginning of spring, my favorite time of the year. I arrive to an empty house as always. My aunt was a 22 year old nurse, stuck with the burden of a 16 year old teenager. Since she is my only other relative besides some distant cousins, she got stuck with me. She always says she doesn't mind but sometimes I think she does. I walk up to my room that has changed so much in the last 3 years. When my dad left he told Jenna that she could have the house. I guess he didn't want to leave us out on the streets. How kind. I immediately begin to do my homework, needing to finish before 4pm so I could get ready to go to work. I had a small job at a local diner taking peoples orders and cleaning tables. It wasn't the world's best job but it gave me enough money to pay for most of my things. I didn't like to ask Jenna for money because she works so hard, even though I'm sure she wouldn't mind helping me pay for my clothes and such.
I finished my homework within the hour, leaving me with a lot of time to spare. I made myself some Macaroni and Cheese while I watched some Netflix. Grey's anatomy was the new show I was obsessed with. Halfway into my episode I hear someone banging at the door. I get up slowly, peeking out the window, seeing my other best friend Sarah. I open the door to see a pissed off expression on her face.
"Ryan is such an ass!" She exclaims, letting herself in before I can open the door. Sarah and Ryan were brother and sister-twins to be exact. They got along most of the time, but like every sibling, they argued.
"What did he do this time?" I asked while getting Sarah a bowl of mac and cheese. I didn't even have to ask if she wanted food anymore because I knew the answer would always be yes. For such a thin girl and could eat like a grown man.
"He kicked me out of the house so he and his new girl of the week could have some alone time if you're catching my drift." She sat down and thanked me for the food, digging in. I couldn't help but laugh and roll my eyes. Even though Ryan was my best friend I couldn't help but admit he was a bit... promiscuous to put it nicely.
"Well you're more than welcome to stay here as long as you want, but I have to leave for work at 4:30." I closed my laptop, focusing on Sarah.
"I'll probably leave when you leave, and I don't care if he's done or not I'm coming in." She said scooping another spoonful of Mac into her mouth.
"Are you sure about that?" I said raising my eyebrow.
"You're right I might actually vomit if they aren't done and I walk in on something I don't want to see." She makes a disgusted face and takes out her phone.
"I'll just text him to tell me when he's done with his play thing." She types away on her phone, putting it down after a minute.
"When do your parents get back?" I ask, checking the time on my phone.
"Next week thankfully; I think they are staying for the whole month this time!" Sarah and Ryan's parents travel a lot; it's a part of their job. They leave for a while then come back for a while. I know Sarah really misses them when they are gone so I'm happy they'll be returning soon.
"That's awesome Sarah!" I check my clock again, 4pm.
"I'm going to go get ready for work; you can watch TV or something." She nods and I put my bowl into the sink, going to get ready.
