The airport was bustling with people—families reuniting, travelers rushing past with suitcases, and announcements echoing across the terminal. In the middle of it all stood Geetanjali and Naina, two sisters waiting anxiously, their eyes scanning the crowd. They were excited to finally meet their parents again, their hearts beating with anticipation.
But while Geetanjali's excitement showed on her glowing face, Naina's expression was harder to read. Every time their father's name came up, a flicker of something sharp and unreadable flashed in her eyes—anger, perhaps? Geetanjali noticed it, her instincts telling her something was off, but she decided not to press her sister now. Later, she told herself. For now, she wanted to hold on to the happy mood.
Two hours slipped by. No one came to pick them up. The sisters shifted from one foot to another, restless. Their phones were switched off—both had forgotten to charge them before traveling.
Geetanjali's patience was running thin, her brows furrowing with every passing minute. On the other hand, Naina stayed surprisingly calm, trying not to let frustration win.
"I'm going to the washroom," Naina finally said, giving her sister a look. "Stay here. Don't move from this spot."
Geetanjali rolled her eyes but nodded.
But when Naina returned, her heart dropped—Geetanjali was gone.
Panic surged through her. She ran to the nearby food stall and asked if they had seen her sister. The vendor shook his head. Fear clawed at Naina's chest, her mind racing with the worst possibilities. She didn't even have her phone—she had given it to Geetanjali earlier. She was utterly helpless.
Minutes crawled by like hours until, finally, after fifteen torturous minutes, Geetanjali appeared. She was smiling brightly, holding the now fully charged phones in her hands.
"Naina!" she called.
Relief flooded Naina. She sprinted to her sister and hugged her tightly.
"You dumbhead!" Naina shouted, her voice trembling with emotion. "I thought I lost you!"
For a second, Geetanjali was stunned by her sister's worried face. Then she broke into a loud laugh.
"Awwww, my sweet sister loves me this much," she teased, ruffling Naina's hair.
"Shut up," Naina muttered, snatching the phone. "Give me that. I need to call Mumma."
Geetanjali plopped down on a chair. "Yeah, yeah. Go ahead. I'm starving."
"You're always hungry," Naina grumbled, dialing the number.
"Hello? Mumma?"
On the other end, Miss Lee's warm voice cracked with relief. "Nainu, my child!"
"Mumma, we're here. But no one came to pick us up."
Before Naina could explain further, Geetanjali snatched the phone from her hand.
"Mumma! I'm hungry!" she whined. "No one is here to escort us. That dumb bodyguard was with us on the plane, but now he's nowhere! I'm starving!"
Miss Lee chuckled softly. "Don't panic, my child. I'll send someone right away, okay, baby?"
Fifteen minutes later, their phone rang again. This time, an unfamiliar male voice spoke. "Miss, your ride will arrive in two hours. Please wait."
Geetanjali's eyes widened in disbelief. She snatched the phone once again.
"Yahhh! You irresponsible fool!" she shouted. "Two girls are standing here alone, and you dare say two hours? If you're not here in thirty minutes, you're fired!" And with that, she hung up.
Naina stared at her, deadpan. "What was that?" 😑
"I was angry," Geetanjali shrugged. "Had to take it out on someone."
Naina sighed. "Fine. Let's eat before your 'wolf hunger' destroys us both."
"You're the wolf's sister, so that makes you a wolf too," Geetanjali shot back with a smirk.
The two laughed, heading to the canteen. They bought burgers—their all-time favorite—and ate quickly, chatting between bites.
When they returned, their bodyguard finally appeared.
"Let's go, ma'am," Soobin said, bowing politely.
Geetanjali narrowed her eyes at him, her glare sharp enough to cut glass. "Where were you? We were standing here alone!"
Soobin kept his head low. "My orders were to escort you here and then report to the office. I'm sorry, ma'am."
Naina squeezed her sister's hand gently. She knew Geetanjali was ready to unleash another storm of questions—questions neither Soobin nor she could answer. "Let's go," Naina whispered. "We'll see Mumma soon."
Confusion flickered in Geetanjali's eyes, but she let it go, her excitement to meet her parents bubbling up again. The two sisters climbed into the sleek black Mercedes, the city lights flashing by as they drove toward Min Mansion.
When they arrived, their jaws dropped. The mansion stood tall and magnificent, its marble walls glowing under the evening sky. But while Geetanjali admired the beauty, her instincts prickled. She felt eyes on her—someone was watching them. She turned swiftly, scanning the area. No one.
She shook it off and followed her sister inside.
The moment they stepped into the grand hall, Miss Lee was waiting with open arms.
"Mumma!" both girls cried, running into her embrace. Tears streamed down their faces as she kissed their cheeks, their foreheads, their hands—everywhere she could reach. Her daughters were finally home.
"Minsoo-ah," Miss Lee called to a maid. "Take them to the guest room and help them settle in."
"Guest room?" Geetanjali frowned. "Mom, don't we have our own rooms here?"
"You do, my dear," Miss Lee explained gently. "But they're not ready yet. They need to be cleaned. For now, stay in the guest room, okay, baby?"
Geetanjali opened her mouth to protest, but Naina quickly cut in. "We're tired, Mumma. Let's just freshen up. And we missed your food so much!"
Miss Lee chuckled. "Go and change. I'll send sandwiches and milk to your room."
The sisters went upstairs with the maid, chattering softly. Miss Lee watched them until they disappeared, her smile fading as she turned toward Mr. Min's study.
She barged in without knocking.
"What happened, Miss Lee?" Mr. Min asked calmly, glancing up from his papers.
"You called my daughters here without telling me," she accused, her voice trembling with anger.
Mr. Min leaned back in his chair. "Yes. They are my daughters too."
Miss Lee laughed bitterly. "Really?" Her tone dripped with sarcasm.
"What's the problem?" he asked, irritation slipping into his voice.
"The problem," Miss Lee said firmly, "is that they don't know anything. They don't know they have three siblings. They don't know you're their stepfather—or rather, their uncle. Because let's not forget—we aren't even married. They don't know any of this, and I don't want them dragged into it!"
"My daughters need them," Mr. Min said coldly.
"They are my daughters too!" Miss Lee snapped. "And to fix your daughters' lives, you will not sacrifice mine. I won't let you."
The air in the study grew heavy, the unspoken war between them deepening.
