The following day, Mr. Min entered his office and found a sheet of paper lying neatly on his desk. The heading caught his attention immediately:
"Few more kindness expected from Mr. Min, Miss Lee, and Young Master."
Curious, he adjusted his glasses and began to read.
1. When this will end you will never ever expect us to be with you in any situation.
2. We will use their names but live in our own style. Yes, we will act like them in front of those who know them, but for those who don't, we will be ourselves.
3. You will never ask us what we are doing if our work is not affecting you. Yes, if it is affecting your daughters' image in any way, you may ask. But until that day comes, you are no one to question us.
4. We will not follow the rules and regulations of this house.
5. Before leaving this house and after your daughters return, we want to live one day like a full family—with love, without fights, without sadness.
At first, Mr. Min was stunned. He had expected the girls would ask for something precious—perhaps wealth, jewelry, or privileges. But instead, they had asked for freedom, independence, and a single day of warmth. To him, these demands seemed almost childish, yet deep down, he knew they carried far greater weight than material things.
He called Misoo, who was cleaning in the hall.
Mr. Min: "Bring the girls here. Now."
Moments later, Naina and Geetanjali entered the study. They looked tired but composed, standing shoulder-to-shoulder as if facing trial together.
Naina: "Why did you call us?"
Geetanjali: "Is there something we need to know?"
Mr. Min folded the sheet and placed it on the desk.
Mr. Min: "We have no problem with your conditions. They are accepted."
A faint smile tugged at Geetanjali's lips.
Geetanjali: "Good. Then we'll return to our room. Whenever you decide how this plan of taking your daughters' place will proceed, just let us know."
Without another word, the sisters left. Their footsteps echoed down the corridor, leaving behind a silence that made both Mr. Min and Miss Lee feel heavier than before.
Back in their room, the day stretched long and lifeless. They lay side by side on the bed, scrolling through their phones, staring at the ceiling, or simply sighing. The weight of everything they had discovered still pressed heavily on their hearts.
By 5 p.m., boredom gnawed at them.
Naina: "Let's just watch a K-drama."
Geetanjali: "Yeah. At least it'll distract us."
They slipped into comfortable clothes, tiptoed to the kitchen, and gathered armfuls of snacks—chips, cookies, bottles of soda. To the maids, Naina casually said,
Naina: "We won't be having dinner tonight."
The maids exchanged nervous glances but said nothing.
At 9 p.m., Miss Lee returned from outside. She asked the maids if the girls had eaten.
Maid: "No, madam. They refused dinner."
Worry washed over Miss Lee's face. She hurried to their room and knocked three times before Naina finally opened the door, a half-empty bag of chips in her hand.
Naina (coldly): "Yes, Miss Lee? How may I help you?"
Geetanjali looked up from the bed, instantly sensing the tension.
Miss Lee (softly): "You didn't have dinner. Come and eat something. It isn't healthy to go without food."
Naina (shrugging): "Sorry, but we've eaten too many snacks already. We're full."
The formal "Miss Lee" pierced deeper than knives. Once, these girls had called her mother with warmth. Now the distance in their words left her trembling.
Miss Lee: "Still, you should eat a little. Please."
Geetanjali snapped, her voice irritated.
Geetanjali: "We said no! And we're not in the mood for arguments. We just want to enjoy our drama. Please, leave."
Miss Lee's eyes welled with tears. She stood frozen, her heart shattering at the harsh tone. Without waiting, Naina gently but firmly closed the door in her face. Inside, the sisters returned to their drama.
In the hall, Miss Lee broke down. She stumbled into Mr. Min, who immediately wrapped an arm around her.
Mr. Min: "I know. They must have said something hurtful. But don't worry. One day, they'll understand and forgive us."
He led her back to their room, but the ache lingered in both their hearts.
Meanwhile, Naina and Geetanjali were lost in their drama marathon. The hours slipped by, and before they realized, it was 1 a.m. The snack stash was empty.
Naina (groaning): "I think I should've listened to Miss Lee. I'm starving now."
Geetanjali: "Me too. Why didn't we eat dinner?"
Naina: "Should we... sneak out?"
Geetanjali (eyes widening): "Sneak out? At this hour?"
Naina: "Yes! There's a convenience store nearby, right?"
Geetanjali: "I think so. I remember the way."
Naina: "Perfect. Let's go."
They quietly opened the window, slipped into the backyard, and tiptoed toward the wall—only to be caught.
Soobin (sternly): "And where do you think you're going?"
They froze, hearts hammering. But the familiar voice made them relax. Scratching the back of her neck nervously, Geetanjali admitted,
Geetanjali: "We were... craving something spicy. We didn't want to cook at this hour, so... convenience store."
Soobin sighed, shaking his head.
Soobin: "Fine. I'll send you the location. But come back within thirty minutes. And when you're back, give me a ring so I can sneak you in safely."
Naina (grinning): "Okay. We'll be quick."
Grateful, the sisters hurried off. Once outside, the night air felt refreshing.
Geetanjali: "We should explore a little!"
Naina (alarmed): "Are you crazy? It's past one. Thieves and mafia roam around at this time!"
Geetanjali: "Relax. We're together. Look—puppies!"
Indeed, a small group of stray puppies wandered in a nearby park. Naina's heart melted instantly.
Naina (cooing): "Awww, they're so cute!"
They crouched down, giggling as the puppies wagged their tails and licked their hands. For a brief moment, the darkness around them didn't matter. For a brief moment, they felt like ordinary girls again—laughing, playing, forgetting the weight of their reality.
