Ending the call with Finn, I had an unsettling feeling rest in my stomach. Nothing about that call felt right. Nothing her tone of voice did either. It could be me just overthinking it all. I mean having to sit down at dinner with your own mother who was your nightmare growing up isn't exactly something to me jump around about.

Shaking the feeling off, I walked back to the table and sat across from my grandfather, "everything okay?" He raised a brow, slowly chewing on his steak.

"Yeah, everything's fine."

He nodded, "must be a fine young lady if she's got you going back on your words."

I chuckled lightly, remembering twelve-year-old me proclaiming how I would never date or like a girl in my life. It wasn't my brightest moment in life but nothing much I could do about it.

"She's something different, pops. I don't know what it is."

He raised a brow, "who is she and what has she done with my grandson?"

I chuckled, "I think you would know her godfather...Knox Grayson?" His shoulders tensed and his movement stopped.

He looked up at me almost challenging me to keep talking. I had a lot to say but this wasn't the time and place to do such a thing.

"You know I heard an interesting story from the Larkin's. Care to hear it and correct it?" He dropped his knife and fork, leaning back into his seat, "go on then. I don't think my answer will stop you from speaking."

"You're right there...You had a lot of play in Knox's downfall three years ago. Rumour has it you were the reason investors were pulling out. Blackmailing them. Threatening to put hits on their wives and children..."

His hand wrapped into a fist, "You also blackmailed and bribe his employees to quit without notice. And then his stocks came plummeting down like nothing the world has seen before and this was after you were heard belittling him because he didn't start his business with a good ten million in his pocket as you did."

"So riddle me confused when I heard the exact same story from twelve people that my grandfather. The man who is all about helping others and treating fellow CEOs as equals is the reason that one almost lost not only his businesses but his own home as well."

"The Larkin's told you this?"

I smirked, "one of the twelve other you painted me the same picture and with proof that I ahem hard and digital copies off if you try to deny it."

"So now it's time for you to answer pops, did you or did you not create the downfall of Grayson Corporation three years ago?"

He scoffed, "and if I do admit to it? What does that change? He's still some scum who failed to hold onto his business."

I clenched my jaw, "You almost cost two families their lives. Their homes. Everything they worked for. They almost lost because you couldn't accept he was doing better than you ever could with Vaux Gaming. You were threatened and almost ruined a man's life and his family for what? Jealous? To eliminate the competition?"
