Evan's POV
Oh great... I get the new kid to sit next to me... he's probably like the rest of my classmates, and will bully me constantly. Couldn't this day get any worse. I could feel my body shaking like a little leaf. I could NOT have another breakdown... I put my eyes on the desk to avoid his stare, or his glare. I could hear him setting down his stuff, and I heard a pause.
'Here it comes...' I braced myself. However I felt a little tap on my shoulder, and instinctively I reacted badly, flinching at the touch. I turned to him, as he back away a little.
"Sorry! Um... I'm Gregory, you're Evan right?" He asked me. My eyes widened, no insults? No degrading? No abuse? Is this real?
I slowly nod to his question, it was a little dumb since he knew my name was Evan already, but I didn't mind.
"Awesome! What do you think we're going to do for this class?" He asked me. I didn't say anything, except shrug my shoulders. Everyone around us were watching our conversation.
"You don't talk much do ya?" He asked me.
'How many questions is he going to ask me? God it's so annoying... I won't talk.' I shook my head 'no' as he smiled? Why would he be smiling?
"It's okay, you probably have your reasons for being quiet, I like quiet people, but I wish you would speak." He said, smiling even more. I nodded, looking back down at my desk.
'Wow... I thought he would make fun of me for being... quiet. Maybe today won't be so bad...' I thought to myself. The teacher then clapped her hands to get everyone's attention.
"Class! Please have your eyes on me!" She called out, as she went to close the door. Everyone was now focused on her including me. I wiped any remaining tears off my face, and looked at her.
"Yesterday we talked about the homework assignment from yesterday, and how we will discuss it later. So I want you all to find a partner, and come up to me when you have done so. I will give the assignment that you and your partner will work on." She explained as I quietly sighed. I hated group work, because absolutely no one, wanted to work with me. I usually just ended up completing the assignment by myself.
"Alright, pair up with someone in the room." She stated. Everyone got up, and started going over to their friends. I looked down, and I could feel the tears in my eyes.
'Im going to be alone again...' I thought. Until someone surprised me.
"Hey Evan... you wanna partner up?" I looked to where I heard the voice, and I saw Gregory's face leaning forward to see mine. I couldn't believe it... this new person... wants to partner with me? I could feel even more tears spewing down my face, and his face changed to worry.
"H-Hey! I didn't mean to make you cry! Sorry!" He waved his hands in the air frantically. I quickly wrote down something a piece of paper, from my backpack
"It's Okay" I wrote on the paper, and showed him. He understood, but was confused.
"Yeah? But you were crying hard. Are you sure that you're okay?" He asked me. I nodded, and wrote down another word.
"Sensitive." I pointed at the paper then to myself. He seemed to understand the message.
"Oh... okay well, do you still wanna be partners?" He asked. I nodded my head, and he got up, as I did as well. It felt nice finally having someone who didn't think I was weird, or hated me.
'He'll betray you... he's trying to gain you're trust, just to stab you in the back.' A voice in my head said. I shook it away, as I continued walking with him to the teacher.
The teacher looked at me in surprise when she saw I was with the new kid, Gregory. She smiled at me.
"Evan's going to be my partner." Gregory said, putting a hand on my shoulder. I involuntarily flinched a little, and scooted away. I didn't like physical contact without knowing, or my permission.
"Okay... Gregory... and... Evan... here you two go! Have that assignment done by Friday!". The teacher said. I nodded, and took the assignment she handed us. It was a packet with 4 pages.
'a study guide...' I looked at the sheet. I looked at Gregory, and he smiled. We went back to our seats, and got to work.
'Okay... first question. 4x -10 + 7x =45... geez... this is like high school questions I wonder if Grego-'
"The answers five." Gregory says confidently. I turn to him, with my eyebrow raised.
"It's easy... you combine both 7 and 4 and you get 11x, you then add -10 to 45, then you divide 55 by 11x, and you get 5 as the X." Gregory explained like it was the was easiest thing. I nod in understanding of his response.
'Wow... he's pretty smart, even I didn't get it that quick.'
'That's because you're slow, and dumb!' The voice in my head yelled. I shook my head again, tears threatening to come down my face.
'Please stop!' I screamed in my head. I felt a tap on my shoulder, and I flinched harshly.
"Evan? Are you okay?" Gregory asked me. I turned to look at him, and nodded slowly.
"Do you not wanna do the assignment? We can always work on it together later, maybe you can help me find my classes while we wait for this class to be over. Does that sound okay for you?" He asked me nicely. I nodded slowly, and he pulled out a sheet of paper.
"So this is my schedule, I have Math first, then History, Lunch, Science, and then P.E." My eyes widened, we basically have the same classes except for History, I had English instead.
I wrote something the packet.
"We almost have the same classes, I have English instead of History." I wrote, and showed him. He smiled widely.
"Yes! I have most of my classes with you! That means I won't get super lost! Hey do you know where History is?" He asked me. Why does he always ask me so many questions...
I wrote something on the packet.
"Yes I do. Follow me after class. and I'll show you." I wrote down. I showed him, and he nodded.
"Are you okay now?" He asked me. I nodded slowly.
'I guess I feel... better.' I thought. He smiled softly. He pulled out his watch, and his eyes widened.
"We have only a minute left... jeez time goes by fast." He says to himself. He turns to me.
"Hey... if you don't mind me asking... why don't you talk?" He asked me. I look down, to not have him look at my puffy/teary eyes. I write four letters on the paper, and slowly move it to him.
"Mute..." The words on the paper said. I looked at him, slightly waiting him to make fun of me.
"Oh... I-I-" He stammered, then the bell rang, when he was about to finish what he was saying.
"Oh... class is over, so uh... can you help me find my next class?" He asked me. I sigh internally, this boy is so hopeless... but that's what I am.
Hopeless.
