The week has flown by. We have fallen into a regular routine. Wake up. Eat breakfast (Zeke grows elven food!). Work on the farm alongside the Shadowflux helpers for most of the day. Lunch. Train our abilities (special and not). Dinner. Bed. Repeat.

But this Monday, we are forced to get up early. Way earlier than normal. Something just feels off. Waiting for us in the living room are backpacks. I plead to whatever higher power that we aren't moving again. I'd just gotten used to this place. I'm fine with not having made any new friends, still giving Meluna the silent treatment despite her best efforts.

"Buckle up, kiddos!" Zeke greets us. I'd grown to have a fond respect for our babysitter. He's actually really cool. The metal in his body is called "piercings" and they're common among humans. They hurt to get, but not after. Same with the "tattoos" or inky designs on his skin. I think I may like to get some of my own sometime if I stay long enough. Truthfully, though, I still miss my family. And friends. And, of course, Keefe.

My eyes catch sight of something and I speak before Zeke can finish. "Scrolls!"

His expression falters at my interruption. "I will address those when you get back." I redden, enthusiasm still simmering under my skin. Wait. When we get back from what? He takes a deep breath and a gleam enters his eye. "You all are starting school here. You will be joining mid-semester, but I trust that you will be okay. This is a public school. I'm not going into the difference right now but trust me when I say this is better. Inside your backpacks is a schedule with classes I hope you enjoy. A big yellow vehicle called a 'bus' will take you to and from the building. No leaping here. When the time comes, you will have plenty of lunch money to buy food. Pick up a breakfast bag on your way out and follow me."
