This was dumb, really fucking dumb. And Enti knew it. His bullshit senses were tingling. Still, they were sitting in the uncomfortable plastic chair in a hallway that was way to hospital like for anyone to be comfortable. Especially Enti, who's whole future basically rested on this moment. Okay maybe not his entire future but a good chunk of it, and definitely any relationship with his parents. Although the more he thought of it the less sad he was about losing that. He tried to think of a life without his parents, and he couldn't tell if he liked it.
It was a world without soul crushing expectations, but it was also devoid of any structure whatsoever. The more he thought of that, the less he was opposed to it. No! He was here for a reason; this is what he's wanted for all his life.
Was it though?
Yes! Now shut up.
The other people, no not people his mom was very adamant that he and his peers were above everyone else. The other heroes in the room looked at him weirdly. It's not his fault that the only way to get rid of your inner consciousness was to shake your head rapidly. It's not like he was worried about what these people- heroes thought of him. They were his competition, he is so close to everything, having the world in their arms. And if all that was in between him and his dreams was this one test, then he sure as hell was going to ace this goddamn test.
One plus of being an only child was Enti could entertain himself for hours, and by the number of people in this room that would definitely come in handy.
It was three hours later, and a total of fifteen people had come out of the test room crying or generally just hysterical.
Whatever this "final test" was Enti was not prepared. They had done the basic training, I mean they had gotten this far which very little people did, or at least that's what he was told there were a lot of people here. Names were called, hero names followed by their first and last names. Enti couldn't tell if this felt more like a job interview, which it kinda was, or if it was more like a hospital visit. He couldn't tell which one was worse. More and more names were called, each only adding onto the weird haze that had settled over Enti's mind.
"Daedalus, Entity Blue,"
Suddenly Enti was moving, but he wasn't? He wasn't doing anything, but he could see his body move on its own. This was not a good time for this to happen. He would've happily dealt with this for the next week if it would stop now. This had happened before, Enti losing control of their own body. It was because of their power, which is what he told himself because he was far too worried about the truth, whatever that was. He, his body, followed the lady that had called his name into a room. The room was plain, well maybe it was, he was internally panicking too much to notice if the room had any decorations, or even what the room looked like. He did, however, notice his mom sat in the same kind of chair he had been in moments earlier. Her face was a mixture of pride and quiet terror. Enti liked this much less than the normal amount, which he hoped was zero.
"So, Daedalus, this final test involves your mother," a voice sounded from an overcome that Enti had no idea existed. Enti could feel his body nod. When was this going to end. He wanted to go home, he wanted to cry into a pillow until he fell asleep. Every bone in his body was tired, even his teeth somehow. This wasn't worth it, no matter how rich and successful he could become from being a hero, none of it was worth this day. He could vaguely register a door opening and someone walking through it. He heard the speaker system again and his body was moving on its own. His body was racked with chills, those you get after being rained on.
