potions was by far her favorite class—a class where she had free reign over everything she did. she liked potion making. anything she made was a product of her genius, every meticulous detail crafted to her whim, everything under the control of her two delicate hands. and as she walked into the potions classroom with her head held high, she could feel the small amount of confidence in her waver as she looked towards one of the only available seats left. she had two options, sit next to a "pureblood" (curse that god awful word) slytherin who had shown his distaste for her since the 2nd year when she accidentally pushed him into a pile of snow. in her defense, she didn't know he was so frail.

so she took her best and most obvious option and just sat next to percy, who was looking over the ingredients list for their next spell. she paid no attention to professor snape as he gave his usual lengthy speech. "hi." two taps on the wooden desk sounded out gently. "nice to see you again" there was a whisper between them as percy made no effort to look over at the brunette girl, fearing the house points that would probably be taken by the gryffindor hating teacher. "hello ms king" he finally replied as snape sent them on their way to make a drought of peace.

"we've never been partners before right? well, you can get the stuff" her voice was sweet and firm, already deciding herself the dictator of the pair. he nodded, gliding away to retrieve the ingredients needed before coming back with everything they needed. "we'll probably need other things."

Percy was hit with nothing but confusion as he checked over the ingredients list and everything he had placed on the table before looking towards the girl who'd just finished tying up her hair. "why would we need anything other than what's on the ingredient list?"

"why wouldn't we?" she put in her second hair stick before surveying over the instructions.

"well, going by the book would be the best way to go about these things." he spoke with a tone that made him sound right, confident in his previous potion making.

"I find that potion making is like baking for lack of a better analogy. its very experimental and can yield better results all around." she said matter of factly, her eyes looking at him with a fiery gaze. it was as if she was waiting for a rebuttle but he just nodded. "plus, professor snape likes me so he gives me a bit more leniency when it comes to potion making."

a focused look on her face, she did most of the spellwork and mixing. they were very compatible despite never working with each other before. occasionally she would tell him to grab extra items, like clary sage oil and he crushed and sliced whats needed and reminded her of important steps. they was a calm silence over the pair as they worked in harmony. in all honesty, she thought she would've been more freaked out while working with him. of course his voice did send tingles that made her murmers pause but potions was a subject she was very confident in and nothing could cause slip up, not even cute boys. everything went at a quick but manageable pace. it was much better than working with one of her housemates that she usually paired with. she loved peter but he was much too clumsy for proper potionwork. percy was very focused, easily matching her wits as she chatted about the potion.

"my grandparents own a flower shop, knowing the language of flowers as well as their properties definitely helped throughout my years of potions. the smell of clary sage reduces stress and my family often sells balms with the scent mixed in." she watched as the potion turned turquoise blue with a tinge of purple in the pot, allowing it to simmer.

"do you want to be a potions master? when you graduate of course." percy asked curiously, he'd never met someone as remotely interested in potions as she was.

"erm, probably not. i'd most likely end up with a muggle job, if I'm being honest. they're more convenient." a shy smile was on her face, she knew she had the talent to be a potions master or even open up an apothecary but she was realistic. "what are you going todo when you graduate?"

"I'm going to join the ministry of magic, of course." she watched him as he rambled about his future, envious of his passion. he seemed to know what he wanted and was doing everything in his power to set himself on the path he wanted to take. tiara got good grades, of course, but they wouldn't be useful when she graduated and gave up magic. oh well, certain thoughts you shouldn't dwell on if they do nothing but worry your head.

his rambling had come to a stop as he looked at her, wondering if she had always had that faraway look in her eyes. he let out a hum as he cleans up the table, tiara pouring the potion into a flask neatly as she sensed their conversation was done. once the flask was labeled, she submitted it to professor snape.

"would you like to partner more in the future? i could learn a lot from you and it would be helpful to my studies as well as providing well needed stimulation for the upcoming o.w.l.s ." percy blabbed as he tuned his head to look at her, both of their steps falling into the same ace as they exited the dungeons.

"that sounds like a great plan," she accepted with a pause. "we could study together if you would like, i could give you pointers about potion making and muggle studies if you would like." she offered with a delicate smile gracing her features.

"that would be most aggriable. i am free this thursday, we'll meet in the library." he nodded as she hummed, seeing her friends look at her from down the corridor.

"i think this is where we part ways. see you thursday percy." she gave him another smile as he waved, albeit a bit awkwardly.

he watched as she saunted over to her friends, them looping their arms through her own open ones as they engaged in a conversation, excited chatter being heard through out the hallway as they walked away
