Jonathan and Will stormed out of the kitchen, which now appeared as if a grenade had struck it, and hastily approached Argyle, Mike, and Eleven. The trio automatically brought their chaotic bickering to an abrupt halt at the sight of the brothers. Once everyone had fully settled down, Jonathan took a deep breath and parted his lips to speak.

"It's time."

The crew didn't waste a millisecond of time after reentering the spacious kitchen. The moment the doors swung open, El yanked her lilac socks off while Jonathan worked on setting up a radio. He hurriedly adjusted the knobs until the device played ongoing static noises.

Everything was assembled and ready to go, so El placed the makeshift blindfold on her head and carefully stepped into the basin. Lowering her body into the lukewarm water, she slid the glasses over her eyes and released a breath she didn't know she was holding.

Briefly after her head made contact with the water, the restaurant's array of lights began to flicker, which only meant one thing — she had entered the Void.

"Wild," Argyle commented, his eyes fixated on the lights.

The boys remained perched in their designated spots around the freezer. They anxiously waited for El to tell them what exactly she was seeing. The dreadful tranquility of the atmosphere was practically eating them alive.

"I found Max and Lucas," The telekinetic girl finally blurted out. "They're carrying a light. A blue light."

Mike and Will slowly craned their heads around so that they were looking at one another. They shared a glance of concern, seemingly finding a way to communicate without words. El's brief explanation wasn't satisfactory enough for the two. They needed to know every individual detail about what was occurring in Hawkins.

"Okay, El, what's going on?" Mike queried after another extensive period of silence.

"It's not working," She responded.

"What's not working?" Will panicked.

"Max's plan."

A solid five minutes ticked by, though it felt more like five hours. The entire crew, minus a rather serene Argyle, were shaking with nervousness as they waited for El to give them another update. Mike and Will had to fight the overwhelming urge to interrogate her with questions, as they knew that doing so would be distracting. Luckily, she spoke up just seconds later.

"He has her."

Shit. Mike and Will shared another worrisome expression, silently praying that their friend would be alright.

The dimmed lights began to flicker erratically for the second time, causing the group of teenagers to stare up at the ceiling in fascination. Once the flickering ceased, Mike decided to speak up again.

"What's happening now?"

"I think I am in a memory," El slowly explained, seemingly struggling to string her words into a sentence. "A Max memory."

"Do you see her? Do you see Max?" Will piped up, his hazel eyes displaying a glimmer of hope.

"No, but she's here," The girl replied. "She has to be here."
