"Look who's come back. "A new voice called out. I glanced up to see a woman with dark skin and shockingly white hair descend down some wooden stairs to our right. As she neared us she noticed me standing behind Logan and her eyes widened. "A new student?" She asked Logan quietly, giving me a reassuring smile. Logan simply gave a brief nod.
"Welcome," She smiled showing teeth almost as perfectly white as her hair. "What's your name?"
"It's Hailey." I replied curtly.
"I'm Storm, welcome to the Institute. We better take you to the professor, your going to love it here. Logan you know the way right? Logan?" She tried to get his attention but he was fixed on a red head eleglently descending the stairs. She had short red hair and her face was pulled into a warm smile.
"Hi Logan," She greeted him with a nod.
"Hi Jean." He said a bemused smile on his face.
"I've got to go check on the kids so I'll see you around." The woman with white hair scurried away after a group of particularly loud students.
Logan and the red head began to talk and turned their backs to me. I had never seen Logan smile for so long, albeit I had only known him for a short time. The two stared straight into each other's eyes and it was hard not to miss the attraction between them. Hell, you could practically see sparks flying off them. It was almost...well cute. As that thought entered my head I suppressed a laugh, because unlike the southern belle standing beside me I didn't giggle. Ever.
"What's so funny?" Asked Bobby turning from his girlfriend to look at me.
"Just the two love birds. They are so into each other. It's almost adorable...and I never thought I'd use adorable to describe Logan."
Rogue frowned at my words and glanced at Logan with a strange expression on her face.
"Jean is with Cyclops....He's another teacher here.." She said quickly. She looked troubled by the conversation so I turned it to another topic, no point in causing any trouble.
"What's with the nick names here?" I asked to distract her, but also out of pure curiosity. They were pretty strange. "I mean Rogue is cute but Cyclops? Storm? Ice man." I said looking pointedly at Bobby. "They are all kinda out there."
"Well we're not exactly normal, are we. So we have our names to embrace what we're like."
"Well yours is pretty self explanatory so I guess you don't have any imagination."
"No, it just sounds the best." He said flushing slightly red.
"I'm not sure snow cone."
"Snow cone?"
"Yes, snow cone. Anyway if Rogue is a nick name what is your real name?" I inquired turning to the southern belle.
"It's Marie." She admitted quietly.
"Cute but Rogue is cooler. Just like your hair." The white streak in her hair was very edgy, much better than my plain hair. It was simply brown and wild. But I was used to wild.
Rogue blushed at my compliment.
"Thanks."
"Snow cone?"
"Yes snow cone, snow cone. I'm sorry Rogue but your boyfriend doesn't seem to be too bright."
"Hey!" Yelled Bobby in objection. Rogue simply giggled giving Bobby a smile but he stared me.
"Wait til you get your nick name newbie."
My smile dropped.
"Stop teasing her." Giggled Rogue.
"Like you'll get anything embarrassing on me." I retorted but that was so untrue. I was pretty clumsy but he didn't need to know that. "You see snow cone......" Before I could finish a hand fell on shoulder and shrieked in surprise whirling around to face only Logan with an amused expression on his face.
I heard Bobby chuckling behind me.
"Maybe we should call you banshee after that scream."
I heard the smack of Rogue hitting his arm and a satisfying groan if pain from Bobby.
"Ready to see the professor kid?" Asked Logan.
"Yes, I Hailey am ready to see the professor."
"Bye Hailey." I heard Rogue say as she scurried off to class.
"See you around new girl." Said Bobby turning after his girlfriend. I followed Logan to a pair of doors but turned my head, when I felt a gaze on me, to see Bobby staring after me. I sent him a small salute with a smirk and yelled down the hall to him.
"You have school, Snow cone."
His laugh echoed in the nearly empty hallway as he walked the way Rogue had headed.

I followed Logan through the corridors, frowning as we passed more and more wooden doors. There was no way I was going to able to remember where anything was here. On the run all I had to do was to remember to follow the road. Logan soon stopped in front of two wooden double doors. I stared questioningly at him. He mentioned to the doors with a nod of his head and I slowily opened them. I winced at the creaking and slowly walked in. The room was big, a study. There was a big window and bookshelves on one wall and a large wooden desk at the furthest wall. Behind this desk was a bald man, who I presumed to be Professor X, sitting on a chair. Well at least I thought he just sitting on a chair until he came around the side of the desk in his wheel chair. He sent a warm smile towards me, his face open and friendly. Not overly perky like the white haired woman but trust worthy.
"Hello Hailey, I am professor Xavier welcome to my Institute for mutants."
His voice was grand, his accent a English one that was clear and pleasing to the ear. It was almost enough to completely distract me from what he had actually said. My eyebrows furrowed. How did he?
How did I know your name? I'll explain.
I gasped at the old man whose lips hadn't moved but answered a question that I had yet to voice aloud.
"How?...How did you...?" I gaped.
"Know your name?" He answered for me as I stared at him speechless. "Sit down Hailey." I sat wordlessly. " I'm a mutant just like you but I can read your mind." He explained gently.
"Don't worry, I don't sneak around students thoughts. Your thoughts are private. I heard from Storm that we had a new student. Now I've already had Storm organise a room for you at the school. Now the institute is a school so if you stay you have attend classes but we'll help you catch up if you need help." He continued. "How long have you missed out on school?" He asked kindly.
"Two years..." I mumbled.
He nodded gravely but then gave me a warm smile. "You seem intelligent, you'll be able to catch up. Well test you on the knowledge you have and see from there and I'll have the teachers informed that you'll need help." I nodded a grateful smile on my lips.
"Now we also have to assess your ability to control your powers....."
He continued speaking but his voice faded in my ears. All I could hear was my heart pounding in my chest. My confidence that I gained earlier talking to Rogue and Bobby crumbled. I can't use my powers. I can't! It'll go wrong again. I'll mess up. I'll hurt someone...
I could feel myself shake.
It's alright, we can teach you. That's what the school is for.
I took a deep breath and focused on Professor Xavier.
"Many students are scared to use their powers but we can teach you control. You will never be pushed past what you can handle. Maybe we can wait to assess you?" He said kindly.
I nodded my head.
"Now Logan will show you to your room. Your schooling will start tomorrow, I'll send someone with a schedule to show you to class."I got to my feet and went to leave. Pausing just before the door I turned to the Professor voicing one of my worries.
"What if I can't control it."
"Well then we'll all have to help until you can."
My mouth twitched into a smile as I slipped out of the room. It's not edited, as always cause I'm lazy but it's an update. I have been busy lately.
I'm not sure how the professors office looks like but I made it up from memory.
Anyway would you think a little romance, later on,would be a good idea?
