The small blonde girl looked sad again. Her chin was on her hands, and she avoided looking at anyone in the classroom. Around her, people were chatting and laughing as they waited for the teacher to come.
What a waste, her freckled seatmate thought. She doesn't know that everyone's eyes are on her. She has no clue how gorgeous she is. She thinks that no one will vote for her as Prom Queen.
"Historia," Ymir broke into her thoughts. She lifted her head, confused. "Let's go to the mall later," continued Ymir.
Historia gave a small, bashful smile. "I have to study."
"We're going to the mall," Ymir said. "I need a good suit for Prom. And you need a dress. So shut up and join me."

The theme for Prom Night was '80s. Historia wanted a simple white dress; Ymir shook her head. "It's the eighties. Think big, Historia! What wouldn't you wear on a normal basis, but would like to anyway?"
Historia's eyes drifted to a bright pink gown on display, sleeveless, tube-topped, velvet-smooth down to the waist then puffy and layered from that point on. The layers were made of different kinds of cloth in different shades of pink and white, and cut into irregular shapes. It was simple and chaotic at the same time, with an elegance Ymir knew only Historia could rock. In a moment, it was in their shopping bag. A pair of red pumps soon followed. Jewelry – dazzling silver bracelets and pearl necklaces. Then came the ultimate test.
"Getting your ears pierced is just a suggestion, you know," Ymir reminded her. It was true — just a suggestion. One Historia's father would not like at all. But she had to learn how to stand up to him.
Historia took a deep breath. "I'll go if you go."
She didn't scream. She sat, pale as a ghost, squeezing Ymir's hand the whole time. "Done!" said the man piercing her ears. "Stunning! Now go select a pair in the store."
She picked small pink heart-shaped studs, the same hue as her gown.

The mall was almost closed when they hung out at the park nearby. Ymir leaned against a lamp post and smoked, and Historia watched the clear night sky above. There was a bar not far away, and they could hear the faint thumping of music. "Wanna go?" Ymir suggested.
Historia shook her head. "We have a lot of things to carry," she pointed out. "Also, I like being here. With you. Alone."
Ymir smiled and nodded.
"There's one thing I've been wondering about, though," Historia went on. "Did you say you were going to buy a suit?"
"I found nothing I liked," Ymir replied. "Let's shop somewhere else tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?"
"Yes," Ymir said. "Something that fits me the way that gown fits you. You help me this time. Let's blow them all away."
"Deal."
