Mind, twilight 1 by: divinedutchess
I love this story! I love the representation of the spectrum. I enjoyed reading Bailey's experience and sometimes it was absolutely hilarious. I love watching as she experiences new emotions and learns how to socialize, it was a beautiful journey. I was thrilled at how the scenes are mixed together to allow Bailey to be in them, that one was new. Most stories just write it from a new POV or cut the scene altogether, but this one mixed and mashed scenes together to where it made sense for Bailey and her wonderful brain to be there. If you've read the story, you totally get that reference.
My favorite thing about this story is Bella and Bailey's relationship, I think this is the first story where I truly loved Bella as a character. She is always there for Bailey and truly supports her in everything. It was wonderful to witness their bond and their connection. I just enjoyed reading a story where Bella truly loved someone other than the Cullens.
Next on the list of beautiful elements of this story is the fact that Bailey and her character actually had an effect on the story. Her existence in the story changes said story. Elements that were in the original are changed because of Bailey and who she is and how she is wired. This is especially prevalent as things get more heated and dangerous. I love this, give us a reason why your character is here in the first place. How do they really affect the story? Would the story be the same if the OC wasn't there? If they were forcibly removed, would the story have the same impact? And the answer is Bailey changed this story, I think for the better. We see whole new sides of characters we have never seen before because Bailey is there to bring it out of them. (NGL, I still kinda ship her with Jasper...but I know it's problematic for many reasons. I just really like their dynamic).
Back to the spectrum, I think this is a cohesive and consistent portrayal of someone on the spectrum. WE WANT MORE! God, I love Bailey as a character honestly. She'd probably rip me to shreds for being dumb as fuck, but I kinda want her to do it. Might give me that motivational push to be more concerned about real world issues and my education. I tend to be too laissez-faire about everything not fantasy-related. I like to escape to fanfiction, movies, and music when I don't want to be in the real world. I feel like Bailey inspires me to care about my mind and filling it with knowledge.
I adore how she is so blunt with everyone, the restaurant scene had me crying. I was laughing so hard, I had to post about it on my Snapchat. As someone who has worked in the food industry for years, I thought the waitress was stupid as hell. My number principle when working is to always look at the female, as much as possible. I might give a quick glance to the male, but out of respect for any possible relationship and for the female, I always look at her. That way no one can come at me for "looking at their man." I feel like she brings up the points we all thought about, but no one ever said.
The sequel is great so far, I hope there is more to come. I want to see her more around the wolves in New Moon and see how she processes all these heavier emotions she begins to feel as she simply grows older and experiences new things. *Update: The sequel is making me cry so much, some happy and some sad tears...just a lot of tears around here.*
