"You know, you could've just tapped me and said something." I say, looking over at her above my laptop.
"Mm, but I love it so much more when I can just text you. And you looked like you were working hard, I didn't want to yell something I was just going to text the whole band five seconds later." She smiles and blows me a kiss. "So, that party..." She inquires.
"What about it Clarabella?" I say, hanging upside down off my bed.
"You kinda disappeared there for a second, you know. With Evie." She says, saying "Evie" in a taunting tone.
I instantly roll my eyes, and sit up so I can look her in the face. "Clara, for the last time- I do not like her. She does not like me. We are merely lab partners. She has a boyfriend. Her boyfriend is our friend, Brinker. Please try to remember this." I say to her in a monotone, 'I'm very annoyed with you right now' voice. "And anyways, I was just helping her deal with new boy."
"What? Phineas? What happened with Phineas?" She says, very concerned.
"He'll be alright, mother goose." I tease. Clara's always kind of been the mother of the group, always so concerned with how we're doing, and if we're okay. It's one of the many reasons I love her. "He was just cross-faded off his ass, so I helped Evie get him upstairs and to bed. We talked a little about their relationship, and how they've known each other since they were babies, that's all."
"Oh. Yeah, didn't their dads meet at Yale? No, that's not right. Tulane, Lep said. Yeah, Tulane." She says.
Tulane? That's where Ev wants to go next year. But from what I can tell from our conversations, and stuff with Lep, they don't really talk to their dad, like ever. Huh.
"Oh. I didn't know that." I mutter.
"Yeah, they're apparently pretty proud of it or something. El has some picture of his and Phineas' mom in these mock Tulane cheer outfits, and their dads in some old sweatshirts from when they went. It was taken before they all turned into old hags- well, except for Maya, of course." Clara says, in between bites of Cheez-its.
"Yeah." I say, trying to figure out how to change the subject, and making a mental note to ask Evie about it later. "Well, after that, we went back downstairs, danced a little bit, as friends!" I emphasize. "Then I found you and Lyla, and she found Brin, so case closed, night over."
"Alright, alright, I'll back off."
"You said that last time too, and here I am interacting with the Clara police again." I say playfully, and roll my eyes.
"Haha, very funny." She says in a monotone voice. "I promise this time. I won't say anything else."
"Thank you."
"But I can't promise I won't think it!" She grins widely, and I stick my tongue out at her. "Well, I have to go pretty soon, I'm meeting Leper at the library to work on some stuff."
